    Hey everyone

I just bought a 2010 s4. The car does no have the advanced key option. Is there coding we can do through vag come to activate this option? I want to be able to unlock and lock the car with the door handle sensors.
    Thanks in advance

Do you have the touch handles? On your door handles do you have the little squares on the outside of the handle. I do remember seeing an option for advanced key when i was playing with my vcds cable.

That's a additional feature for the old models. Now it's standard. I don't think it matters if you use vag com if its not there vag com will not change that. You can have the dealer or Audi Customer Service look up the features of your car and they can tell you. All that would have to be wired into the doors.

Are you sure the little squares on the door handle means you actually have sensors? Or did Audi make all the door handles look the same?

My 2012 has squares on the door handles and they do not seem to be anything more than modeled into the handle. I do not have advance key, I don't think? I do not have a push to start button in the car, key has to go into the dash.

    i wondered this as well

all door handles have the little squares (body colored) and i have the button on the trunk. but none of them work like a "smart key"

i could understand not having the push button as standard, but my wifes 2010 base model prius has smart keys standard

    would love to retrofit this

I ran across this page from somebody trying to retrofit the smart key functionality in an A5. I would think the effort is similar, just to give you an idea of the work involved. Unfortunately it's in German. http://www.motor-talk.de/blogs/reini...-t3942288.html

Hi - any of you who do have the advanced key --- do you ever charge it by inserting in dash? After 1 year I am getting a warning to recharge key ... Dealer told me I never had to use the dash mode ...

I never put mine in the dash but I didn't know it charges that way. I'm too lazy is it mentioned in the manual?

Change the CR2032 battery in it. It doesn't have inductive charging in the dash slot.

I think the confusion comes from BMW having a rechargeable key battery in their NON Advanced key . Comfort Access key(as BMW calls it) is also not rechargeable. BTW , it cannot be retro fitted in a BMW. Not sure about Audi's system.

Isn't there the issue of detecting the key itself? Is this functionality present in the non-advanced key cars?

At a minimum you would have to actually purchase the advanced key itself and have it programmed. The advanced key is slighltly larger than the standard key, and costs $500 per key from the dealer. I would imagine there would have to be some additional hardware in the car as well, but I am not sure. It seems unlikely that you could software unlock this feature even with a key, but I am curious what you learn.

sounds like one of your door sensors is bad, have you tried to pull any codes for the central locking system?

Are you touching the inside of the handle with your hand while the key is on you to unlock the doors?

Not yet. Taking it into the shop tomorrow so I will see if they find anything.

As far as touching the inside of the handle.... It used to just unlock as I reached for the handle. Now nothing. The trunk sensor still seems to work, just not the doors. It doesn't matte which door either. The auto-unlock seems to be MIA. :/

I have that problem to a smaller extent with my rear doors. My rear pass. door is especially annoying, you have to hold the handle for a sec for it to recognize it.

Mine seems to do the same thing. I know sometimes I have to put my pocket with the key in it closer to the car. I have had times of when I was driving down the road the car would tell me that no key was present. I probably should change my battery as I have had my car for a little over a year.

I have to pull the handle twice on my car to get it to unlock. I don't mind it though as it seems to be a safety feature. Sometimes it doesn't work at all. It's a little funky. I don't think the little squares do anything. They were molded into my '12 door handles, as well and I didn't have the advance key in that car. It is a cool feature, but really not necessary. I don't mind hitting the buttons and I find myself inserting the key in the dash half the time anyway. The battery is not rechargeable as far as I know. A CR2032 is a very common battery used in many applications. My garage door opener uses the same battery. Only a few bucks to replace.

You're doing it wrong. You don't tug at the handle to get it to unlock. You put your finders behind the handle and touch. The locks unlock, THEN you pull the handle. To lock it back up, you shut the door and touch the square button with a finger or the back of your hand/fingers. You need to make it a 1 or so second touch. It can't be a quick tap.

These locks are awesome when you carrying stuff like food or other things where you can get one or two fingers on the handle but not more. I've even shut the door and locked it with my knee or elbow cus my hands were full. I get some funny looks sometimes. I'm going to try my nose next. Lol

If your hands are full after getting crap out of the trunk, you can also lock the doors by simply bumping the handle with your hip as you walk by. Works really well.

BTW, since we're on the keyless subject, when you wash your car, leave the key somewhere inside it. That way you won't set off the locks as you spray them down. Saw posts about this a few weeks ago, but couldn't find that thread again to share this.

    Advanced key option

Advanced key isn't just a coding thing. The key fob is different and hardware is missing on non advanced my cars (several receiver antennas, the door sensors - all cars have the molded "pads" on the handles, the start/stop console button, and wiring)

    Got the following code:

00192 – Left Rear Door Handle Touch Sensor (G417)
    007 – Short to Ground

I have a feeling it has something to do with the water I was getting in the cabin. The code was cleared and came back right away. I'm guessing I need to pull apart my door to fix it? Anyone had to do anything like this yet?

    Thanks

If you were getting water in the cabin it's worth a shot to take off the door skin and try and find the hardware for the keyless go. Make sure that theres no corrosion on any of the contacts.
