vinyl wrap the roof and carbon fiber side mirrors

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just wanted to get opinions as far as whether this look would look good on Q5 or would it look too tacky. I was thinking gloss 1080 3m for the roof and maybe some carbon fiber wrap for the side mirrors or ones I've seen from OSIR. If there are other alternatives I would appreciate some feedback.

    - Vinyl wrap all the way to rear spoiler?
    - vinyl wrap roof and do carbon fiber spoiler from OSIR?
    - carbon fiber cover from ebay for the side mirrors?
    - OSIR carbon fiber replacement side mirrors?

FYI, I have on the gloss black lltek grill, porsche gloss grey color paint for both rear diffuser and front lip and titanium color wheels which are Matte. My caliper are painted black with silver audi rings decals. Not sure if that will help give an idea of what combo would look best.

I would do one color instead of different types. I would just do gloss black on the roof-spoiler and keep everything as is. Although, I have seen a white carbon fiber vinyl that would look pretty damn awesome.

I'll likely be the dissenting opinion on this, but since you were kind enough to ask.... I'm not a fan. Assuming you've got the pano roof, I think there's already ample contrast against the paint finish. Also, there's no real clean 'break' near the C pillars where you can seamlessly transition from film to finish. I'm an even bigger curmudgeon on the mirrors. In my little padded cell view of the world, they should either be finish color, or the glorious brushed/matte S finish. (And only then, on an actual S.) IMO the Q is a nice-yet-subtle attention grabber in stock trim, and your current mods certainly take that up a notch.

FWIW, I'm in my 40's, so factor that in accordingly. I'm also a detailer, and having touched many modded vehicles, I've found that none of this stuff holds up well, and it certainly adds effort in care & maintenance. All that said....it's your Q, and be happy. Good luck...

That will give u several color combo looks. The A1 sportback looks a lot like a small Q5 (which has a Sportback look vs. an Avant look).

I really like what they do with the contrasting roof colors on the lighter body color A1s. Would love to see that option over the brand range in the new gen models.

    Look forward to your pics!

I've had my last two cars roofs painted gloss black, so I'm a bit biased. Having said that, I think the Q5 looks good with a gloss black roof. As always, it's your car to walk out to everyday, so do what you like. I found these images through Google:

Thanks guys for your feedback, both pros and cons. Much appreciated. So I went just for visuals purchased a roll of black shiny wrapping paper..lol..i know i know..its half assed but this atleast gave me an idea what the overlook would be well sorta. So based on this..you guys think this should be a go? should I vinyl wrap all the way to the spoiler or just the roof?

For $170 (parts and installation) I guess can't really go wrong. worst comes to worst they can always remove it if it doesnt work out in the long run.

Do what appeals to you... but if you decide to go ahead, are you going to wrap the antenna also? Or instead of a black roof, maybe black out all the aluminum/chrome trim instead (like the titanium package)?

Thanks man. Actually I think I'm going that route you're suggesting. Instead of doing the roof I'm just going to vinyl wrap (black satin style) the chrome around the window and leave the roof rails chrome. I'm still up in the air whether I should vinyl wrap or paint my side gloss black.

Either way would work... I went vinyl with mine since instead of going gloss black, I smoked it, giving it a black chrome / gloss gunmetal look. Don't know if matte smoke is available, but that would match well with your wheels.

    Good luck!

can i get some opinions/feedback on what what would be a better look against a glacier white color ?

    1. window trim using vinyl matte black and leave door pillar as is (gloss black)

    2. window trim using vinyl gloss black and wrap door pillar the same gloss black

    3. window trim using vinyl gloss black and leave door pillar as is (gloss black)

    3. or matte black both window trim and door pillars

Planning on leaving the roof rails chrome.

Will there be a noticeable difference between 2 and the first 3?
I would say 2 if not as gloss next to matte might look a bit odd.

There is a Satin Vinyl too. I'd personally go with that or Matte blk on the chrome window trim, roof rails so that it matches the style of the OE Black Optics/Titanium/S-line Plus pkg look since those include a gloss blk grill surround like you have. All of this should match pretty good w/ your rims too since they're matte!

I've seen glossy black window trim and IMHO, it doesnt look good.

Additionally, I think either gloss or satin/matte mirrors will look good too.. like an Evoque or Mini.

Oh and i'd personally leave the door pillars as-is. The glossy look blends in nicely with the glass.
