    04 A4 B6 1.8T Alternator Pulley

I am hoping someone has come across this issue and can shed some light on it for me. My issue is that my serp belt tensioner is bouncing a good 3/4". From what I have gathered the issue is in the alternator clutch pulley. The issue I am having is that apparently there are like 4 different alternators that were used, so that means that there are 4 different pulleys. My question is, is there any way of finding out which one I have so I can order the correct pulley, w/o pulling the alternator. I Don't see any sort of markings on the sides I can see from the exposed sides of the alternator. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well assuming you have never replaced the alternator before, I would say go to the dealer with your VIN and ask them.

When I look kit up on my parts suppliers lists (3) it only comes up with part number 06B903119D as the only replacement pulley available...

I tried that fR3ZNO, and they said it lists 4 different alternators and 4 different pulley and 3 different amperage, so I would need to find out who made the alternator and how many amps it is.

Thank you Dubsport Inc. I will look that one up.

Update: I found that one at http://www.europaparts.com/alternato...6b903119d.html I just hope its the right one. $70 bucks is a lot to drop on a incorrect part.

Make sure it's not the belt tensioner either.

Well in my experience that is what I would have thought it was, was the tensioner. I did replace the tensioner pulley to no avail. but everyone says its the Alternator pulley, so thats why I was going to replace it.

There's no reason the tensioner should be moving like that. I wouldn't think the alternator pulley has nothing to do with it. Chances are the tensioner is bad. The tensioner has a dampener in it (like a spring) to absorb vibrations and when the belt jumps around. When this dampener goes bad the tensioner pulley will have more play (like you're describing)

Might be time for a new tensioner if its never been replaced. Another sign its bad is the infamous chatter from the tensioner - it's not always present but as it gets worse it will eventually chatter.

Ok, so I ordered the entire tensioner and will install it whence it arrives. I will post if it fixed the bounce issue or not at that time. Thanks Guys

Well it looks like that did it. Just a lil bit of bounce that from my experience is normal. Thanks for confirming what I thought it was. I'm glad on this one that I didn't go by what most forums say that is the culprit and change the alternator clutch pulley. Thanks Guys
