Clunking associated with slightly warped brake rotor?

When I step on the brake, I get a slight vibration and hear a clunking on the left side (which is the warped rotor as well). What in the suspension will typically make noise in this instance? I am thinking lower control arm? The tie rod end is brand new on that side and I did not notice anything else when I put it in last week, but I wasn't specifically looking for anything else at that time.

Rotors don't clunk unless something is loose.

It could be that a caliper carrier bolt is loose. Is it a constant clunking or just a one time clunk when you hit the brakes.

Also it's pretty difficult to wrap rotors daily driving, chances are there is an uneven amount of pad material deposited across the face of the rotor. The inconsistencies cause the pedal to pulsate under braking.

Check the anti rattle clip, when I bought my Audi they were not installed correctly and would clunk over bumps all the time.

Hmmm I will check things over.

I know that when I first got the car, the caliper on that side (drivers side) lost one of the bolts holding the caliper together on the bottom side. We discovered it after I drove it a few miles and the brakes felt weird. Twice now, after about a year, I have to replace the rotor on that side because I get shuddering during braking. So this would be the 3rd time I have gotten a warped rotor on the same side. Wondering if that somehow bent the caliper causing it to slowly warp the rotors over time? (Though you would think that would prevent the caliper from working correctly at all.... no? )

Please tell me you replaced that bolt.

Really???? Your really asking me this???

No I drove it over 60k miles with the lower bolt holding one of the front calipers together gone and instead we used silly putty and the chain from my lucky rabbits foot to hold it together... :D

It was replaced within 30 minutes of discovering it....

Guessing you have the HP2 calipers you might have a semi stuck piston in that caliper causing uneven wear. Pull the caliper and inspect the pistons.

Most Audi caliper carrier bolts are stretch bolts that are one time use only. So if at any point you removed one and reinstalled it, it is subject to coming loose and not holding at the proper torque spec.

I've never heard of a bent caliper before.. I think you would break something before bending it..

Yeah thats what I thought too... so what are reasons why I would keep getting a warped rotor on the same side after about 12-14 months? Other than a piston issue.... which I will check this weekend.

Are you reusing pads when you installed rotors? If not are you bedding new ones properly? As I mentioned before I highly doubt your rotor is warped. Its most likely inconsistencies of pad material built up across the face of the rotor.
