If it can light a cigarette that means it works. It is a possibility that your charging adapter is not working correctly. Usually an adapter has a light indicator to show that it is on, does yours have that? Also try out another phone charger to test it out.

Well, there's your problem right there. Cigarette lighters don't charge phones. I think you need a *phone charger* to do that.

Haha, good one. Check the fuse in the tip phone charger. The one for my gps actually blew, and I had to replace it.

the charger works in both my B5's (with an indicator light), just not hers, so its definitely something wrong with hers

There's a fuse inside the charger, usually right under the spring tip.

SO if the charger is working, and the cars lighter is working, is it possible that the phone charger cant draw enough power from the Cig lighter to actually charge the phone? For example, some usb ports on laptops have the voltage to charge the phone, not just connect it. However some ports don't, and you can connect the phone, but it wont charge. I think it might be a lower tech version of that sort of problem. I would check to make sure the cig lighter was at 12 volts.

i tried to get a car charger to work in my 01, but it wouldnt. worked in a ford though. the problem is in the charger. the side contacts of the charger do not make contact with the contact inside the socket of the car. i dont know why it would work in some b5's and not others, perhaps the sockets were changed through the years. i'm fairly sure this is your problem

So just wrap it in tin foil so it will contact the socket 'more better'. It will charge perfectly for about 3 minutes until your car bursts into flames.

Other option: add a [properly fused] aftermarket 12v socket that will work with all your chargers. Bonus: you can light up the cancer sticks *while* charging your phone.

any idea how to check that though? i'm guessing that i would need one of those things with the prong that measures voltage (hard for me to explain). would i be able to just poke one of the contacts to measure that?

Here is what you would need to test voltage.

You can get them at most hardware stores.
