A5 driver side window fell inside door

so i am driving home from work and i rolled the window down, it comes down halfway making a squeaking sound and falls inside the door. I clicked the power window switch to raise it up and it sounds like plastic being wrapped inside but no window coming out so I tried again and it does come out at last slowly and squeaking to half way up then stops again. It won't go any further. I had to get home and manually lift the window so that it's closed. Anyone had this happening? It's first time something breaks down in my car in 5 years and 50k miles. Would this be an blown actuator? Something else? Thanks

Thanks Mops! windows had griding squeaking sound for some weeks before when rolled up and down, I wonder if this was the beginning of it. I also wonder is there is a TSB although I am out of warranty already.

From my past experience with shit BMW regulators, you will be looking at $300. Just a guesstimate. Part if cheap, labor is high. DIY is not bad if you want to try it.

The parts quote is a joke. Labor is not as bad as I expected. Either way, do not use the dealer. There are plenty of indy shops that would take care of it for half that.

independent shops shoudl be able to get them. usually they get a discoutn from the dealer and they make money off the labor.

You dont need the oem part. Their are aftermarket spec'd exactly the same. I believe "vaico" is one brand.
