Lets talk starter replacement

My starter has been whining for a while. Today it took me too long to start the car. I was wondering what the difference is between the starters of manual B6 cars and the automatic ones. According to ECS, since my car is an 05 1.8T 6 speed, I need part#06B911023AXKT. Will the earlier 5 speed model starters work in my car? I cant seem to get a clear answer on which starters will fit the car.TIA

I bought a Bosch starter for my Audi from Autozone....
See if any of your local auto parts places has one for less....
They are all rebuilds....

really hard to say - GAP lists 06B911023 for 2002-2004 1.8T (non-cab) and 2005 cabriolet 1.8T, but 06B911023A for 2005 1.8T (non-cab) and all B7 2.0T

I know that there are starters availble at the local car store, I was just wondering what the differences were through out the years/compatibility. There are a lot of used ones availble for dirt cheap that I wouldnt mind picking up. Will a starter from an auto work in a manual car?

I noticed in that link they sell one starter that will fit all at/manual 99- newer 1.8t, but GAP has the 06B911023 vs 06B911023A part numbers as if they will not interchange. Im going to stick with the 06B911023A(x) part# for an 05 6 speed to just be safe.

I guess it really doesnt matter if you have an auto or 5/6 speed 1.8t, Both of those part # seem like they will work. Plenty of VW starters out there for cheap(06B911023) too.

Replaced my stock Valeo with an aftermarket Bosch unit (for my vehicle) when I built my engine. No problems with it.
