    That is quite vague.

It has so many factors... Are you in stop and go traffic? Do you drive your car daily? Are you driving on the freeway? Do you have a heavy foot, but think you have a light foot? :)

When you say he lives in NY, is he in NYC or outside the city and is he driving more highway and you all streets? I only get 21-22 mpg on my normal driving which is 75% streets. However, when I take I5 or 101 from San Jose to LA, I get 36+.

Also, how many miles do you have? My MPG went way up after about 7,000 miles

I live in a crowded city and frequently am stuck in stop and go traffic. Im not sure what the conversion is from mpg to km but I only get about 400km to a tank. 500 if I'm driving highway only. Car is new, only 1000kms so fuel consumption may change.

I'm doing an experiment right now to see how close I can get to Audi's stated numbers for fuel consumption...and in not driving like a yahoo I'm pretty damn close. Doing mostly city driving, right now I've got about 500km's on this take and the needle is showing just under 1/2. The trip computer says I've got another 250km's or so left in the tank...which is pretty close to Audi's estimated range of ~620KM. I did the same experiment on a round trip from Ottawa to Toronto and back (~1,000KM's total.) I was able to get from Ottawa to Toronto and made it back to Kingston (~800KM's) where, with less then 1/4 tank left, I refueled. The computer said I had another 120km's left in the tank...pretty close to Audi's estimated highway range of 886KM. For my normal driving habits, I get about 450km's and refuel at 1/4 tank.

Chances are, the problem is with those lead-shot socks you're wearing. Make a conscious effort to not accelerate like a bat out of hell and see if your mileage improves, mine's gone through the roof...although it is a bit boring. Normal driving will resume once this tank is out

My best tank for my 2013 A4 was just a bit less than 400km a tank (with Efficiency Mode on in ADS - which shifts under 2000rpm 90% of the time).

Usually, it averages between 300-350km (with Comfort/Auto for ADS). This is with 90% Stop and Go traffic in Vancouver. I don't even want to use Dynamic cause I am sure the MPG will drop like crazy. So far, not too impressed with the fuel economy, hoping it will improve after more kms. IMO, Audi should've reduce the size of the gas tank reserve, or give us a bigger tank. 300km range sucks

I would say that 220 miles per tank is pretty low. I work downtown Seattle and have to deal with a good deal of stop and go traffic during my commute and I average 25 mpg combined (350 miles or so per 14gal) since I purchased the car.

During highway miles using cruise control and driving 5 mph over the speed limit (more during passing ;-) ) I can easily get 450g out of a tank on my 2.0 A4.

I get btw 380-400 miles per tank(14.5 -15gallons) I drive right to 0 every time as there is a good gallon and a half reserve. This is with 80% hwy and 20% city. side note has anyone actually ever ran out of gas with these cars as I read someone drove 30 highway miles after 0 reading to test it out and got skiddish and finally filled up.

I have a 2009 Premium A4 and I always get about 200-220 miles per tank. Best case being around 250 (with somewhat higher hwy miles). I've complained about this several times to the dealer but they said they don't see any leaks otherwise the computer would complain.
My friends Q5 gives more mileage than my A4 :( I live in San Diego so traffic is sometimes bad.

Wondering the same thing... I always fill up when it tells me I have 20miles or less, just don't want to risk it... I ran a Mini Cooper S out of fuel even though it suggested I had 35miles to empty!

I asked the dealer today and they said it is due to emission laws in California ..and I have drive both cars with full tanks and my dads a4 in upstate New York definitely gets 400 miles per tank running 93 octane

That's interesting, so in order to create less of a carbon footprint it needs to burn more gas per mile

Also, does anyone know what is done to CA cars that makes this happen or is it strictly the gas used in the state

I'm sure there is a healthy reserve. I recently upgraded my Savanna (2012) and it has a huge reserve. I've gone 120km highway on "empty".
With my A4 I'm mostly on country roads and light city traffic and get 690km per tank. That's usuallyshifting under 4000 unless passing.

that's weird to use twice the amount of gas because of 'emissions modifications'. it's not even that much different im sure to cause anything near that. ive never heard of Cali drivers complain about this, so i think the dealer is full of it.

big difference in driving style, maybe your dad drives old man style and is conservative, you might be pushing the pedal down harder? also local vs hwy makes a big difference, a mainly highway tank vs a mainly local tank of gas and then i would see the difference you have being reasonable.

09 b8 sedan, live in ca and drive around la too. i'd say i go about 40% city and 60% hwy. i noticed that the best miles to the tank i get (380-400 and more if hwy majority) is when i fill up with 76 gas station. whenever i use shell, costco, chevron etc. i get less than 380 even with same driving habits. i stick with 76 now.

The only time I got 220 per tank is when I was literally flooring it every traffic light in city driving. I usually test newly performance mods by pushing them to the limit close to my house in case if there is any issues.

    This.

The A4 (tip) is only rated at 20mpg city. If you fill up when the gas light comes on you only put in about 13 gallons. That would equal about 260mi per 'tank'. Getting only 220mi means about 17mpg, which is more realistic if driving in lots of stop and go traffic and accelerating briskly when given the chance. I know California has different gas requirements. If the fuel isn't as potent then the motor will be less efficient and result in worse gas mileage. Also, a lot of short trips where the motor isn't up to temp kills your mileage.

When I first got my 2013 A4, I calculated about 21mpg out of the first tank, just jumping on the gas a lot and having fun. Took a road trip and hit 29mpg. Now I'm seeing about 26mpg in mixed driving, about 40% city / 60% hwy, so I'd say its mpg numbers are right on. Just depends how you drive it.

09 a4, had pistons replaced about 2k miles ago. when i had pistons replaced for oil consumption i was getting 250-270 miles per tank. 2k miles later and mpg has climbed to 300-350 tank driving 5-7 miles to and from work per day with all stop and go.

side note: i did notice increased mileage running ADS in dynamic. only logical reason for this would be less fuel is wasted getting the car up to speed than running the ADS in auto or comfort. hwy i would run the car in comfort as it keeps the rpm generally below 2k

I don't even want to use Dynamic cause I am sure the MPG will drop like crazy. So far, not too impressed with the fuel economy, hoping it will improve after more kms. IMO, Audi should've reduce the size of the gas tank reserve, or give us a bigger tank. 300km range sucks
I live in Richmond but do a lot of driving in Vancouver with mostly city driving. I can push 500kms before I fill up. I have a 2012 A4 Quattro without ADS. I'm only at around 9000 kms total on my car so far too so it should improve a bit more hopefully.

I did a road trip and got 400-410 on one tank! but that was all highway the entire time. My normal commute which is typically stop and go city driving i get around 250-300 a tank.

Only 93 octane here if that matters

Stock here, and I usually average ~26mpg mixed but usually get around 340-350 a tank.
