    P0328 code, help

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Have had a check engine light since I got my car (in my signature), figured it was just from no rear O2 sensor. Had the car scanned at Autozone and they came up with P0328 code which says is for a knock sensor. First question, where is the knock sensor so I can inspect it?

Also, whenever I shift gears, the car seems to shutter...granted, the clutch is new within the last 20k miles and has been making some weird noises. I've been driving manual transmission cars for a while and know how to shift properly, so it's not just me. Second question, could this issue have anything to do with the knock sensor being faulty?

I guess I'll find this out once I fix/replace the knock sensor, but I'm just curious.

Someone has to know where the knock sensor(s) are.

    P0328 code, help

I believe it depends on what engine code you have for the exact position. I think yours is an AWM, but I'm not sure...mine is an AEB and it has two knock sensors on either side of the engine block. One is behind my alternator (pic) and I couldn't find a pic of the other one but it looks exactly the same, on the other side. I think it's behind the a/c compressor.

However, I'm not positive, but I think no matter what engine code you have there should be one on either side of the engine. And that they use the same wires.

Also, no. Your knock sensor being faulty won't mess with your clutch at all. Did you install the clutch? or did you take it to a mechanic you know does good work? I'm assuming you looked to make sure your brake fluid isn't lacking...Do you feel it in the shifter at all? or solely in the clutch pedal? you might check your tranny fluid as well, if you feel it in your shifter. Does it feel like the engine is shuddering? the clutch? the transmission? Can't tell?

I guess someone before me had it installed, there's a receipt for it. When I let off the clutch from a stop, it makes almost a grinding sound and vibrates very quickly (not a lot). Shifting gears something shudders, I'll see if I can tell what it is that's shuddering.

Can't really tell what's shuddering, it's just a light constant vibration easing off the clutch pedal and shuddering when shifting... friends are saying throwout bearing but I don't know a whole lot about what those do. Maybe my engine mounts are bad? They don't seem to be leaking.

Totally forgot to check out the knock sensors (my engine is AWM btw). I think I'll have autozone clear the code and I'll see if it pops back up.

I had autozone clear the code and it popped back up the second time I drove the car. I pulled the sensor off the block and it looked fine (can't really see how it goes bad). I didn't end up tracing the whole length of wire to inspect it. Should this be my next course of action, or does my sensor seem to be ok?

Also why does my car shudder when shifting (every gear almost all the time)?

Crappy snub mount probably... Mine does it too. Went away with a new snub.

You're probably right...I found a poly one in the trunk of my car when I got it lol. The owner before the guy I bought the car from did all the mods and probably intended on putting it in.

Maybe this is causing my knock sensor code?

No, this is not causing your CEL for the knock sensor. Which knock sensor is giving the code, there are two? Remove each knock sensor and clean the pad it bolts to then torque it down properly and see if the code comes back. If it does then it could be bad wiring or one of the sensors are bad and need to be replaced.

I can't find the other sensor, I've got a huge downpipe that's probably blocking it..

That's because it's not on that side. Both knock sensors are on the intake side of the engine block. Mostly so they don't melt from the heat of the turbocharger. This photo shows both:

Couldn't see the other sensor, let alone get to it, so I'm just going to leave it for now until I need to take the intake off for whatever reason.

Installed my snub mount, a lot of vibrations are gone, glad I took the couple hours to replace it.

Really? I don't think removing the manifold is really necessary. It's quite a bit below that. Right near the PCV breather pipe. Bolt is circled here. Note that the manifold is installed for this photo:

With all the stuff over that area, I couldn't even see it. Tomorrow I guess I'll feel for it and see if I can get a socket to it. Thanks for your help.

Morning, I hope I'm doing this right, but this morning on my way to work, I ran over something, then check engine light comes on, I checked it with a code reader, pops up p0328 code, I hear it's a knock sensor, is is something that I can do on my own, and where is it located, I'm thinking whatever I hit might of caused it, thanks in advance, 2006 Audi a4 b7, s-line
