Anyone have any experience with an HFC from Eastern Catalytic?

Thinking about going with this HFC from a company called Eastern Catalytic. Only about $200. Too good to be true? This would be the only mod to my otherwise stock s-line avant because I believe my current CAT is clogged.

Car isn't performing well and the turbo and exhaust mani get red hot even if I only mildly push her...

by looking at the picture, it looks like it will have fitment issues. for $200, why not 034?

    buy from europa parts

    couple questions:

    current mileage?

    ever been carbon cleaned?

    always using highest grade gas?

As far as the cat itself, Eastern Catalytic is a decent company. They are a huge OEM replacement supplier for a ton everything automotive. I have no experience with the fitment of that cat, but quality wise and longevity of the cat itself, you should be fine.

Here is a link directly to their site if you want more reading or want to contact them directly.

Expenses in F1 have gone down since the 1960s because teams don't need an extra pit crew to help the driver carry around his balls when he is not in the car.

The thing is, it's nice to have options, and its not like the 034 is only $10 more expensive, it's almost 50% more expensive than the Eastern Catalytic. If the one in the OP fits and works, why spend the extra? I realize that someone essentially has to be the guinea pig, but if it works fine, then B7 owners have an other option. Just recently I have seen cheaper options for xenon headlights, and adjustable upper control arms, if the cheaper option works, then I am all for it.

Personally though, if I were buying a HFC tomorrow, it would be the 034. I have some other 034 parts, bought from Europa, and would buy again from you guys. Just saying that it's worth a shot on the cheaper option if it ends up benefiting us all, especially if the OP HFC works, and then 034 (and others) have to lower their price to compete.

@mr shickadance - Do you DD your sti? If so, how is it for DD duty? I keep toying with the idea of an STI to replace my B7, but I have a 120 mile commute 3 days a week, and wonder about interior and how it works out for daily driving. Thanks.

I have 88k on her and I almost always use shell premium.

Never done a carbon clean. What's a good price for a carbon clean from an independent shop? I've done a BG flush before but that's not the same.

Taking her in next week to check out the turbo and Cat as I've been having issues with my car blowing smoke under boost/heavy load.

it's very funny when people ask if i DD my sti, because to me, it's a factory tuned econo-box car, so like why wouldn't i? some people treat sti's as garage queens.

but i think you are asking about it s ability AS a DD. for me, it's excellent, I have the 5 door version, i think the sedan would be too small for me as i would like to carry some golf clubs in there every once in a while.

it's a little loud on the inside of the car, but i put in a new head unit, speakers and sub because it was my dd and i wanted some nice sounds in my DD, i think the a4 is a little nicer, but if you have any curvy roads, or areas where you can go WOT, the sti wins hands down imo

Thanks, that's pretty much what I figure. I would be picking up a 5 door as well if I get one, something really cool looking about it, and I have plenty of curvy roads around here that are fun to throw the Avant around, I imagine having something like the sti would be even better.

the car is very tight, the suspension is tight, the roll is tight, it's like what i would imagine driving a cheetah would be, it just seems so ready to be driven however you want to.

and i had a wrx previously, but the driev select, and the adjustable center diff really makes a surprising difference, it's like you get 8 different cars in one.

If you want a HFC, buy one from a company that supports audizine and makes parts for our cars, 034, RAI, ATP, etc.

But I will say Eastern does make a very good product. I have installed at least a dozen of their cats on vehicles ranging from a Lincoln Aviator to a Honda Civic at a previous job. Fitment was always good and a few years down the road the cars were still passing state emissions inspection in NJ with the eastern cat on. I had one fitment issue years ago on a Ford manifold cat assembly, showed them the issue and sure enough a few days later they made a new assembly that fit perfect and updated their jigs so they wouldn't run into the issue again. I wouldn't hesitate to use them for a factory replacement.

Well I ordered it, if it fits and works I'll be the guinea pig I suppose. If not, I'll simply return it and go with the one from Europa.
