    2014 Audi A4 CVT

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello all,

I'm in the process of purchasing an 2014 A4 Cvt. I've read both pros and cons about the A4 Fwd. This is my first Audi so I just want some feed back and advice on the Audi FWD. The FWD offers better MPG but I've read about some problems with it. Just wondering if the FWD worth the money or should I spend a bit extra on the Quattro.

Most buy an Audi for the Quattro so your resale will take a hit. And the difference in MPG is negligible. But if that's what you want, have at it.

If you can afford it definitely go for the Quattro. My B8 A4 was CVT and it was ok, but I am glad I upgraded to Quattro on my b8.5.

Go for a quattro or go for a VW if you want FWD to save money. If you want a CVT get a Subaru or something else. FWD CVT in an A4 makes no sense to me.
Just a normal '13 allroad. Scuba blue, chestnut brown, ash wood, B&O, Nav, underseat bins, Alu Kruez, (wincos 30%-removed), Sun-Gard Shadow 32%, S4 aluminum pedals, stock all-seasons for the summer, stock rims with Michelin Alpin PA4's for the winter.
    FOR SALE: A5 5-arm Y-spoke 19x8.5ET32 with Pirelli P-Zero 255/40R19 100Y tires, lots of tread (used ~2k miles).

Looks like you have your answer, the only real reason anyone gets cvt is to save money, but in the end what are you really saving?

I would look at it from a cost/benefit scenario, and given that view, it is well worth the extra grand(roughly) for quattro

The quattro model, even though its heavier, has better acceleration numbers. The CVT really holds back the FWD cars.

I struggle to see why Audi sells FWD cars, except as a gateway into getting people buying Audis and upgrading to Quattro. Like others have said, FWD buy a VW, if you want an Audi you should get Quattro.

Wished I had went quattro, but it was impossible to find one with all the options I wanted. You have to sacrifice sometimes, and I am content with giving up the quattro for sport, nav, b&o, and led's. Next time I will spend more time finding what I wanted, but in the 2-3 months I was looking I couldn't find what I was looking for in my price range within a 500 mile radius. Such is life, I can always upgrade :)

quattro is not just about driving in snow or reserved for the winter; quattro is about better all-around traction regardless of pavement type or weather.

At best, a CVT FWD A4 is still a nice car, its drivetrain is just really boring. If you just want a nice car to drive point A to B, it'd be ok.

If you care about driving dynamics, a Quattro Tip is a vastly superior drivetrain. Its rear bais AWD (40:60) completely changes the nature of the drive compared to a FWD. The Tip is more responsive and sportier than the CVT, not to mention much more durable/reliable.

I test drove a CVT FWD A4 and Quattro Tip A4 back to back around the same little test drive at the dealer. It was amazing how different the cars felt. Even my wife commented on the hills and corners how the FWD car seemed to struggle while the Quattro car took it effortlessly. This was all at medium speed too. If I had taken those corners hard, I'm sure the differences would have been immense.

Wish I had gotten Quattro but good a great deal on the used CVT. Plus the CVT is stopping me from anymore engine mods like k04.

Don't spend your money just to regret it... The dealer gave me a CVT as a loaner when my car was in for service last year, and it's a COMPLETELY different feel, and not in a good way...

Buy what suits what you intend to do with it. AWD costs more upfront and is less efficient, power wise and fuel wise. The tip also gear hunts in rush hour traffic which can become maddening.

Be honest with yourself. Will you be racing it? Autocrossing?

Admittedly I'm biased against the tiptronic. It was terrible during my commute...gear hunts and jerkiness galore. If you do choose AWD, get the manual.

B8Phil made the best point above: Don't spend money just to regret it.

quattro. For every single reason stated above. Plus some first hand accounts. I too had a CVT loaner and I can attest to the difference in feel.

A quattro car feels planted and on point, and smooth. The CVT just didn't. Even at medium to low speeds taking corners in quattro is enjoyable. It comes down to would you like to experience an outstanding driving experience in a superb vehicle or just the superb vehicle with a less refined driving experience.

I have a CVT and I'm content. But then I'm not one to drive like a maniac and I can count the times I've driven in snow on one hand.

I appreciate the smooth acceleration and the superior fuel economy. And it's a heck of a lot better than the CVTs in the B7 and especially B6.

CVTs seem to make up 60-65% of the A4's in Arizona.

i have fwd and don't mind it at all…first fwd car in my life actually…not looking to go fast, not looking to do canyons or anything crazy just a nice car to get to point a and b and it does the job nicely…is it boring? you could say that is it bad?? not at all…still a smooth and comfortable ride that puts a smile on your face

for me i didn't want to pay an extra 5 grand for the next available a4 with quattro with the same amount of miles…again i do wish i had the quattro but i do not regret my purchase

My A3 was DSG FWD. It wasn't offered with Quattro at the time.
It was fine, but I was always spinning the front wheels and of course it tracked/pulled in heavy rains when the shoulders flooded.

But at least it had the DSG transmission. Quattro or no Quattro, CVT's are just weird to drive.

Hello everyone! I am new to audizine.
I have a 2014 A4 2.0T CVT with 80k miles. Are there any problems i should starting looking out for?
I bought the car with 54k miles and so far ive only replaced the throttle body (under warranty) and the driver side wheel bearing. Other than that, i have done basic maintenance and a transmission fluid change about 10k miles ago.
