Steering wheel compatibility: A3 and A4 four spoke?

I've been searching all over and can't find a clear answer on this. i've learned that you can't use an airbag from a four spoke a3 wheel in a 3 spoke wheel. and i've seen a lot of different swap options (s3, s-line, tt, r8 etc.) however i can't afford those. My car is the base A3 so i have the rubbery steering wheel and i would prefer to go to a leather wheel. on fourtiude someone mentioned briefly that the four spoke steering wheel from a B7 A4 will fit and work with an airbag from a four spoke A3 but I couldn't find anything to confirm it so i decided to ask you guys who know more about this than me. Is this true? Are they the same wheel? I've seen a couple leather 4 spoke A4 steering wheels on eBay for cheap and if i could just swap in my current airbag i could actually afford to go that route. I've had leather wheels in all my cars and the base steering wheel feels weird.

B7 and A3 steering wheels can be swapped, they share the same splines. Can't comment on the electrical differences but the airbags should work.
