    B7 RS4 Steering Wheel Swap Into my B6 (Success.... almost)

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    So, I swapped out the steering angle controller, the clockspring, the clockspring connector, and the steering wheel tonight, and it all went well. After recoding, no codes, everything seems to be working correctly. Horn, volume up/down, etc. Then I try to use the scrolling wheel on the left side, and nothing. Basically the only thing that works on the wheel is the volume up/down.

    I still have the Symphony II deck in it for now, but I have an RNS-E to swap into it.

    Does anyone have any ideas why just the one scrolling wheel would work? Hoping to get the track up/down source up/down working.

    Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    How did you get the air bag to work?

    For now I just plugged the airbag in with the B7 airbag harness, into the B7 clockspring, which means that only one of the stages will deploy in the event of an accident. I plan to redo the airbag connector, so that both stages have voltage, according to the following thread:

    I love those steering wheels. They update the interior so much.

    Until your head slams into the steering wheel. If only there was an inflatable pillow type safety feature in place to prevent death or serious injury even while wearing a seat belt. Might as well remove the rebar on the front end - weight savings yo!

    Continue to live in ignorance, but airbags aren't the grand save-all you make them out to be. ~9% decrease in fatality in BELTED accidents....13% in unbelted. Are they useful? Sure. Does the seatbelt do exponentially more for your safety? Yup.

    Maybe you need to double check your coding for the MFSW.. I have the same set-up and my left controls works ok. Not sure what else it could be.

    Keep thread on topic, there are several MFSW threads where members can argue about airbags.

    OP, I suspect you may need to re-check the coding on your radio/cluster/sw modules. The left scroller should work.

    I did a B7 wheel conversion with RNS-E and bluetooth, I would start with double checking your coding on the steering wheel and radio. You may have missed an option, it can be coded inproperly and not throw a code.

    Yea, I was looking through the coding options again, and here is what I found, and what I put for coding:

    Coding
    0?xxx: Steering Wheel
    0 = Standard (without Multifunction)
    1 = 3-Spoke Steering Wheel (Sport Steering Wheel)
    2 = Multifunction Steering Wheel with Radio Control
    3 = Multifunction Steering Wheel with Radio/Telephone Control
    4 = Multifunction Steering Wheel with Radio/Telephone/Voice Control
    5 = Multifunction Steering Wheel with Radio/Voice Control
    0x?xx: Options
    +1 = Tiptronic
    0xx?x: Board Computer & Cruise Control
    0 = Board Computer & Cruise Control not installed
    1 = Board Computer installed
    2 = Cruise Control installed
    4 = Board Computer & Cruise Control installed
    0xxx?: Rear Wiper (Chassis)
    1 = Rear Wiper not installed (Sedan/Cabriolet)
    2 = Rear Wiper installed (Avant)

    Pretty sure that I entered 04041, but might have done 05041 as I don't have telephone in my car. If its specific to the wheel, and the wheel has the capability to do phone, then I might need to change it to 04041. I'll check and report back.

    What about adaptation for the steering wheel, do I need to do anything with that?

    I don't think so, I was having problems getting my bluetooth to take codes, ended up having to input one value at a time it was fully coded. In the troubleshooting process, I tried the adaptation for the steering wheel which only attempts VIN learning, I could see no discernable difference after that. With that said, you won't break anything by trying, but I don't think it will help. I would try 02041 until you get the bluetooth module installed.

    Ok, so I tried the 02041, and then tried the left scrolling wheel, and still no luck. I'm beginning to wonder if it might be the stereo. I am trying to swap out to an RNS-E, but waiting on the code from the dealer before I can test it out.

    The good news, I went through all of the measuring blocks of the steering wheel, and all of the buttons and scroll wheels work perfectly, so I'm not sure if that just indicates the raw functions of the wheel are ok, or also that its coded correctly.

    Got it totally dialed in tonight.. once I entered the code into the RNS-E and coded for the RNS-E, the steering wheel functions all worked perfectly. Now I just need to figure out why I get scrolling black bars on the RNS-E display. Anyone know how to test the display or the ribbon cable?

    You can test the display with a VAG-COM, but it's probably the ribbon like you suspect.

    http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index...System_(RNS-E)

    You can also get new parts in the audiforum.us (used to be navplus.us) forums and ebay.

    B7 RS4 Steering Wheel Swap Into my B6 (Success.... almost)

    As it turns out it looks like the scrolling issue might be temperature related and is apparently the display going south.

    Also, does anyone have a link or the part numbers for the correct Bluetooth module, harness and mic to connect to the RNS-E in a B6?
