B8.5 navigation way off..calibrate?

So over the past two weeks my navigation seems to not be able pinpoint my location, it thinks I am located 1/2 mile from where I am or off roading. I have rebooted via 3 finger salute several times no avail. Don't think there are any solar flares either.

Anyone have any ideas what could be going on or how to reset/calibrate?

ive been having problems as well. it thinks my car is always going sideways... whats the 3 finger salute?

Yeah that happened to me tonight as well. The 3 finger salute is just a way to reboot the MMI while it is running...menu + center button + top right

Strange...are you by any chance using the 3G connection? Wonder if it uses cellular triangulation to help out the GPS. Also, is your compass correct (although not sure rearview mirror compass is connected in anyway).

My understanding is nav systems cross reference GPS data with map data to pinpoint your exact position and then use dead reckoning. So there's a distinct difference between not being able to initially locate you, and just having the car float off sideways while driving. It should get a better reference with the map data if you're driving somewhere with lots of turns. I suppose it could really suck in the boonies, just GPS with these commercial grade receivers is pretty bad.

I have also had this happen to me. It literally showed me driving through a field.. I was on the freeway so be the time I came to my destination.. I was a full town away the opposite direction according to my nav. It later reset and came back to normal ever since. I do have the 3G tmobile chip running if that matters. 2013 model prestige.

Weird...if the error builds up that bad then it sounds like a problem with the GPS, either receiver or antenna. You haven't done a metallic tint or anything? Messed with the fusebox or cars electronics?

I just started having the same problem. When I start the car, nav has me in the wrong place, and then has me moving in the wrong direction. Compass on nav is also 180 degrees off (but rearview compass is correct). Tried the three-finger salute, with no luck. No tint or electronic mods. Any self-help that might fix it, or do I have to get in to the dealer?

One idea is to try and poke around the MMI hidden menu, and maybe try to reset some GPS settings? But a dealer visit might be order.

I get this issue 4 or 5 times a week! Here's a picture of me driving through a lake

I posted in a few places with no solution. Planning to check it out with the dealer at my 5k service next month

I would visit the dealer. The antenna might be flaking out.

Something that used to work was to drive in a figure eight a few times at low speed (just creep along). This sometimes moves things back into alignment.

I had the same problem just this past weekend. Driving up I-5 to I-90, the carat was well off the freeway and turned slightly. I tried an MMI reset twice with no help but after about 15-20 minutes it snapped back to the correct location. Haven't noticed it since but will definitely be watching for it as it seems that others are seeing it as well. Does Audi/Google push updates to our cars? If so, maybe we got a bad one?

This happened to me when I traveled to Toronto. the car is a US car. I chalked it up to it being about 4 stories below ground in a parking garage overnight. It was totally incorrect, and I reset the system 3 times. eventually it figured itself out, and hasn't happened again.

I was on my way to work the other day and noticed that the navigation thought I was driving a full 400 feet to the left of where I actually was - good job it wasn't right or I'd have plunged into the marshes. I think I've seen this once before but it seems to rectify itself quickly. I've also had the same issue on my phone before.

the hidden menu is not something you want to poke around in and reset settings

Word! Don't play around in there unless you absolutely know what you want to change, why you should change it, and the expected/intended result. I would definitely not "poke around...and maybe try to reset some GPS settings".

There were a few interesting settings there, but nothing to calibrate. It has been fine since I rebooted the MMI and toggled a few items. I am chalking it up to solar flares.

My GPS shows that my car was hundreds of miles away heading in a completely different direction. I was able to move the cursor to the same county where I am located but still 20+ miles from my actual location! The directional indicator in the mirror is accurate but definately not on the GPS screen or on the dash cluster

What mine has done twice, is tell me go around the the block over and over. Is that a Google maps screw up or the MMI?

Finally took my car in for the 5k mile service and asked them to fix this - I see this at least a couple of times a week. As expected, the dealer couldn't do anything because it wasn't doing this at the time I took it in - the pictures of my GPS showing me in the middle of the lake wasn't enough proof I guess. They mentioned it might not have had enough satellites to get a good location - not too many trees here in AZ to obstruct the satellites for my full 26 mile drive home from work! They want me to look up how many satellites I'm locked too next time it happens. Anyone else with the issue may want to do the same - hit route, scroll to the top, select, scroll to the top - shows # of satellites.

Has anyone been able to get this issue addressed yet? I just dropped mine off at the dealer last night. 2013 S4. I've only had the car for a few weeks and have had the same issues regularly since I picked it up....nav shows me driving over buildings, in the bay, in the mountains, etc. Then suddenly it's fine for a little while. The satellite lock was at 0 all day yesterday, but it was still tracking me properly. When I got to the dealer, they scanned it and it came back with no faults. So they will be doing further scanning to try to diagnose the problem. He said that they would have a tech in my car and a tech in a good car drive around together and do comparison scans to try to isolate the issue.

I had it happen a couple of times but never brought it in for service because it went away after I parked overnight and started the car again in the morning.

This started happening to me, I was headed to SF and showed me crossing the bay and straight to the Pacific. I didn't know that S means submarine

Has anyone found a solution to this? As usual, dealer is clueless...

This is a known hardware flaw. You need your 5F module replaced with redesigned hardware. I had this issue last year and it's all fixed now.

Oh this is good info. I've had the problem off and on with my 2013. The dealer just shrugs their shoulders and says it works fine for them. I'll try mentioning this next time. Is there any kind of documentation I can tell them to look up?

On mine, the dealer finally ended up changing the antenna and that fixed the problem. Also, when crossing the bay to and from SF on the new span, mine still shows me in the water because I have not updated the maps. System doesn't recognize the new bridge.

I have Audi connect and Google maps still shows me in the bay on the new bay bridge span. I guess it should update periodically through google maps or do I need it to be done at Audi?

5F module... Does it have a different name? Not getting many hits on Google about it

The 5F module is the main MMI module. Contains the CPU and everything. It's basically a whole new MMI. The GPS signal issue is caused by the MMIs close proximity to the AC and faulty insulation between them. Following is the info from my invoice. It's a widespread issue affecting all models with the 3G+ MMI, including early 2015s. You can open a case with AoA if your dealer can't help you. AoA knows all about the issue.
