    Q5 2014 2.0T 3 Gen EA888?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Can anyone confirm if the 2014 Q5 2.0T is running the 3rd Gen of EA888? I know they got the power bump from 210hp to 220hp which will be the standard in the MK7 GTI. But comparing the MK7 GTI engine bay to the 2014 Q5 2.0T, it looks different. Just curious because I know the 3rd Gen will be Direct/Port Injection. Port being for the lower RPM's to help reduce the carbon build up on these engines.

I have googled the crap out of it and some web sites say yes, others say no. So I figure I'll ask if someone knows from a trusted source at the Audi dealer.

Don't forget that the Q5 is longitudinal and the GTI (and almost all other VWs) is transverse, so I would expect some differences in the engine bay due to that if nothing else.

Yep, the Q5 is a Longitudinal engine, where the VW's are all transverse set-ups.

The MK VI GTI is running the 2.0 FSI K03 Turbo coming in at 200hp. Looking to pick up a Wolfsburg edition for my gf.

The prev gen (US Spec) B8 Q5 is at 211hp still, and the facelift B8.5 Q5 is at 220hp. Pretty sure the 2013 has the uptuned engine with the direct/port injection instead of just direct injection. It may not come until 2014 models tho. Not sure.

Mk6 GTI has 2.0T TSI 2nd Gen EA888, Golf R still has FSI (updated). I did notice that the 3rd Gen, oil cap location is different.

    2014 2.0T still looks like this (2nd Gen EA888)

    2.0T TSI from VW (2nd Gen EA888)

    3RD Gen From VW

I went to the source. Went to audiChat and they didn't know, but they are going to submit my question to the technical department so I can get an answer. Might be a couple of days.

On that note, if they tuned the current 2.0T (2nd Gen) I would expect some TQ increase and not just HP.

Facelifted 2.0T has the revised engine... it's under the engine cover that you will discover the difference :)

    http://www.audiusanews.com/pressrele...pdated-audi-q5

Here is a couple threads on engine differences on the A4:

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...who-s-got-ETKA
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...013-vs-A4-2009

The intake manifold seems to be metal and has support for E85.

    MY2014 has the newer-rev 220hp 2.0T, 2013 is still the 211hp version.

Good find. Well it sounds like it could be the 3Gen of the engine. But we should know for sure from Audi Tech if it is in fact 3rd GEN EA888 with direct/port injection.

has the extra indirect injector, new head, new turbo, new cam actuators, etc.

Throttle response is very nice, almost no turbo lag. Steering is just fine, Audi must have made some fixes to overcome the previous issues.

What is surprising is how fast the engine fires when you press the start button. It is like half a crank!

Maybe the engine code on the engine itself is different? xxEA888xx No clue. I know on the sticker for the car it still says direct injection. This is the info that is just mind blowing. One piece of info says direct, another says both. lol I really don't care, I'm just curious and want to find the "true answer".

There are a lot of EA888 Engines.

Gen 1 Trans Version 1 - Bosch HPFP (US A3 platform vehicles)
Gen 1 Trans Version 2 - Hitachi HPFP (ROW A3 Platform Vehicles)
Gen 2 Trans Version 3 - Hitachi HPFP, No primary oxygen sensor (ROW Cheap A3 platform vehicles)
Gen 2 Trans Version 1 - Hitachi HPFP, Valve Lift, No MAF (New TT's only)
Gen 2 Long Version 1 - Hitachi HPFP, Valve Lift (A4 Platform Vehicles)
Gen 2 Long Version 2 - Hitachi HPFP, E85 Sensor, Metal Intake Manifold with 5th injector (Some new A4 platform vehicles)

There are differences between all of these engines too, including some depending on model year such as compression, pistons, rods, etc.

The new Gen 3 gets tricky. It's a mix of several different things:

All get the new head integrated manifold. Different designs depending on model.
    All have no MAF.
    Transverse and Longitudinal designs.
    Bosch vs Hitachi HPFP.
Turbo exits on driver or passenger side.
Several different turbos depending on model.
    Different Intake Manifolds.
Direct Injection and Direct Injection with Port Injection too.
    Different accessories.
    Etc

Well you sound like that guy with the answers! Do you know if the 2014 Q4 2.0T is the 3rd Gen? Or is it Gen 2 Version 2 (maybe 3 now?) with 220hp bump?

    Here you go....

I have a US 2014, Q5, my engine model is CPMB according to the vehicle sticker.

From the ETKA parts list for a US 2014, Q5, with the 2.0T CPMB, the intake manifold parts list shows the single indirect injector (#48), along with the direct injectors in another diagram.

    http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7409/9...63b40360_h.jpg

So yes the 2014 Q5 US engine has both direct and indirect injection.

So I just got off the phone with Audi. The 2014 Q5 2.0T is still the 2nd Gen of EA888 engine. Just version 3 that includes everything from version two but just with a power bump. The 1st third Gen of the 2.0T will be released in the A3 in 2015.

That is the low down I got from Audi Tech support. Took a week but....................... there it is.

Some good reading on the GEN 3, looks like the US will get screwed. Notice the "plastic" oil pan!

From this it should be very easy to tell the GEN 3 from the GEN 2 as the way the turbo mounts.

This is still the Longitudinal 2.0 TFSI Generation 2 engine.

It's the version with some ethanol support, ie the 5th injector in the metal manifold for helping with cold start and audi vavlelift like all the previous A4, A5 and Q5 B8 and B8.5 models. It's not the new new integrated turbo manifold head engine.

There are two versions of it.

    CPMA - 210 HP A4, A5 & Q5
    CPMB - 220 HP A4, A5 & Q5

The first 3 letters indicate the engine code.

The last letter indicates the power output version controlled by the ECU. As you can see here, they simply added a little more load to bump it up another 10 HP.

Agree that this is definitely not the GEN 3 engine, at least it has the 5th indirect injector that may help with valve carbon washing.

It's too bad that a lot of review sites state that the 2014 Q5 comes with the GEN 3, 2.0T (new head, valve timing, cooling, turbo, etc.).

That is why I did some research and contacted Audi. Some sites said yes, some said no. It is safe to say that 2014 Q5 or any other Audi DOES NOT have the 3RD Gen EA888. From Audi (when they called me), the first car to have the 3RD Gen EA888 is the 2015 A3. Arin, thanks for your info and shining some light on this subject.
I think we accomplished quite a bit on this thread.

Audi's website's also incorrect from time to time. The A3 was listed as having valvelift at one point (it doesn't). Then at one point the A4 or A3 had even the wrong motor pictured. : )

It also always bugs me the power listed on their website is incorrect depending how you read it.

So for example, they list the R8 V10 as 525 HP. Anyone in the US reading Audi USA's website will then compared this to other US vehicles, HP to HP.

But, it's not US horsepower. It's metric HP, and since it's not listed as PS, no one seems to know that.

If you read deeper, you'll find a technical document stating the engine is rated to 386 kilowatts.

So, lets convert based off that.

    386 kilowatts = 524.81 PS (metric horsepower)

    386 kilowatts = 517.63 HP (US horsepower)

It correctly converts to the metric horsepower figure, meaning what they list on the website is no US horsepower.

525 PS roughly equals 518. Close, but 7 HP off from what you expected.
