2013 vs 2014 A4: Wait for the new model?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I have been looking at the A4, and there are actually few left in the specs I am looking for (Manual Transmission and Sports Package). One dealer is telling me he'd sell a 13 for $1500 under invoice, but expects the '14 to be around $500 over invoice. In addition, there may not be a technology credit for the '14, but most sports package models come bundled with navigation (there is a $1350 credit right now for any model with navigation).

On the other hand, I imagine much of the savings are instantly lost in depreciation from being a '13 and the '14 having upgrades.

The only upgrades I have been able to confirm is a horsepower bump to 220 and various cosmetic improvements. I have read that the '14 A4 will shed 200 pounds from the '13, but there was no mention in this in Audi's announcement of the '14 model (http://www.volkswagengroupamerica.co...d_pricing.html)

Does anyone here any insights on the '14 vs '13? Has anyone been able to confirm whether the '14 is actually 200 pounds lighter?

2014 also gets advanced key. I expect that any shedding of that much weight applies to the Post-2014, next generation A4.

I think its a tough call until you can see the changes made to the exterior styling etc for the 2014. Some of the improvements sound good but I am partial to the look of the 2013, hence why I just picked mine up.

Mine is just a premium model, so no nav or advanced key, would be nice to have them standard on the 2014. I will also be curious to see if Audi addressed the oil consumption issue with the 2014. I hear mixed things saying it was addressed for the 2013 MY but it seems the jury is still out on that one.

I agree. If I weren't so impatient I would have waited for the 2014.

Well if you wait for a 2014, might as well wait for a 2015. Heard they will have even more standard features than the 2014 :D

It appears that they are also going to offer a Black Optics Package, which looks pretty nice:

    Black Optic Package (PPS)

-inc: Wheels: 8.5J x 19" 5-Arm Titanium Rotor-Design, Tires: P255/35R19 96Y XL Summer Performance, High Gloss Black Package, Audi Singleframe grille in gloss black with/without license plate holder.

It looks like they're still bundling the useful rearview backup camera with the ridiculously overpriced navigation system, which most of us already have for free on our iPhones. Annoying.

Yeah, the 15 is also going to have new features, but the 14s are hitting landfall very soon, as in weeks. In this situation it is a question of whether to save money (dealers will do just about anything to clear our their lots before the next model year hits), instant gratification (get it now) vs. having to wait a bit, pay more, but get some additional features.

I think the reduction in weight is the B9 model and not the B8.5 '14 model.

I had the option for a 2013 model, but decided on ordering a 2014 instead. Based upon the price guide in the link below, MSRP for '14 (and by mathematical equivalent, invoice as well) is less than a '13. My '14 build is approximately $200 below invoice.

i would definitely wait for the 2014, yeah it's a bit more but the car has more value like you said and you'll get more standard features. and its not like you have to wait long, dont they come out in august/september? might have standard features plus maybe slight visual upgrades.

I dont know, you might never know sometimes you would like the older models better then the newer ones. For example the new Lexus IS250 looks weird now compared to older one lol

The 2014 MSRP is a few hundred dollars cheaper than the 2013 MSRP. If you can leverage a good bargain, the price difference between a "fire-sale" 2013 and a new 2014 should be minimal.

i highly suggest you do not wait till the B9 new MY2015. If the B8 MY09 is any indication of how new models are introduced, good luck to you sir. the oil consumption was a disaster in the 09s. on top of that the features they had were just terrible ( ex. no LEDs until MY2010).

get a 2014 if you want the extra standard features at premium price. 13 will be your best bang for your buck obviously, thats what i would do. In a 3-4 years, you can get a B9 thats been out for a few years, all the kinks worked out. Its a WIN/WIN to go with the 13, then again im biased :)

I bought a 2013 Premium Plus with sports package, advanced key and nav package. With 2014 premium plus, they have added a s line package and advanced key. Other than that you don have any other major difference between the two models and there is a slight power increase. And you can opt for the nav package without reverse camera. But there is no weight reduction. I think thats with the B9 which will be 2015 model.
In the long run if you think about 2013 and 2014, i don think there will be much difference in selling price as both of them will be B8.5. And you will get a good buying price now as the dealers will want to clear the current stock. If you find a car 2013 model with the options you want, i would say go ahead.

If you are buying you are buying a 1 year old car with the 2013 and ultimate resale will reflect that. If youre leasing it doesnt matter. B8 is at the end of the line so they will probably add some equipment to get rid of it before 2015 re-do lands.

The 2014s are hitting dealers as we speak.

Its 99% the same car. A few options become standard on certain packages and the 'stated' power is up 9hp.

Bottom line is you can get a 'new' 2013 for thousands less than a similarly equipped 2014.

it looks like Drive Select comes standard with the A4 Sport Package models.

Anyone here have Drive Select? It looks interesting, at least in theory.

I have it. No big deal really. I can feel the steering and suspension firm up a little. Once its set I never touch it. Over rated imo.
