DIY: rear Oxygen (O2) sensor removal, 1.8t Quattro

This could have been posted before, but I couldn't find any when I was going to replace mine a few days ago, as I'm dealing with P0420, so I decided to share the info.

I won't go into the detail of why do you need to replace it or should you even replace it etc. because it's been discussed tons of times. search!

    Tools needed:
    New Bosch O2 sensor
SHORT 7/8 and 11/16 wrench agian must be short see the picture
or you can use a combination of a flex and an O2 sensor socket
    ratchet with 17mm & 12mm socket
    Philips screw driver
    Cable cutters
    Zip ties

The first thing to do is locate the O2 sensor but you can't because it's under the cat and can't be seen from under the car either.
    So to get to it:

1- Remove the Air box by removing the connectors, clips and hoses circled below:

    Then TADAAAAAAAAAA

2- take out the three bolts holding the cat using the 11/16 wrench and the 17mm socket.
For the drivers' side bolt you must use a round ratchet like mine so it can ply in there freely
Also this is how you get to the bottom bolt:

3- There is one bolt which holds the pipe to not shack, take it out using 12mm socket, and don't worry about the spring, it won't pop out; it will nicely come out.

4- now the cat can be moved left and right:

5- You should be able to see the rear O2 sensor FINALLY!

6- It might a bit hard but it has to be done so loosen up the O2 sensor using the 78 wrench (as I stated earlier it's got to be a short wrench otherwise there is no room for you to break loose the sensor)

7- Follow the O2 wire to the back of the engine and notice it's held on by a zip tie and 1 re-usable clip just below the connector. cut the zip-tie to free the wire.

All done, the installation is in reverse order.

nice write-up but you can get the rear O2 out without unbolting the cat.
Also, you should unplug the connector before trying to unscrew the sensor.

Yeah maybe but I tried for almost an hour to that but I couldn't; there was absolutely no room for the wrench to turn.
