    2010 Audi A5 - MMI/iPod Interface Sound Issue?

I posted a thread in another sub-forum originally with no luck thus far; maybe I'll have some more hits here in the general section perhaps?

Haven't bothered going to the shop yet, figured I'd ask around here first.

Basically, as the title says my '10 A5 has the iPhone (4) and iPod cord in the dashboard for convenience.

Went to hook up my iPod a few days back (I have the "classic" one, it's the bulkier one - as opposed to the Touch, not sure it quite makes a difference) and it recognized and connected fine so I thought I was in business.

I was playing music and realized that something didn't sound right at all. I could hear the beat/instrumentals fine but for whatever reason, the actual track and lyrics itself were very, very muffled and almost drowned out by the beat. I have the Bang & Olufsen upgrade as well, so I went into the Sound options and tried to play around in there yet no options really made sense (treble, fade, etc).

Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone else? I just want to be able to play my iPod and have it sound as tho I was listening to any other station on Sirius.

So it sounds fine when playing through sirius? It may be an MMI issue or it may be the cable or the Ipod. Lets troubleshoot:

Try and see if you can borrow someone else's cable and see if it works. Be aware that there are 2 different types of cables for Ipods/iphones that plug into MMI. One is for MMI2g and below and the other is for MMI 3g and above. Don't qoute me, but I believe the difference is in the last letter of the part no, 'K' or 'E'. If you do a search you may be able to come with something. I know this because somehow I ended up with the older version of the cable and it would charge but wouldn't play in my 3g mmi. I got the newer version and it works fine. Maybe you have the 2g mmi and you are using a 3g mmi cable? Do a search and you may find some info on this.

If you can't get someone elses cable, you can just try with some one who has another iphone/ipod. If it works with another Iphone/ipod then you know its the connection on your pod. If it doesn't, then it still may be the cable vs. the MMI, at which point you have get someone else's cable and test or maybe you can go to the dealer and see if they have one that you can test (try with both versions of the cable, in case your cable is actually faulty).
