If the car is going in for a mechanical inspection this will usually cause a fail but it may be different where you are. If you can't find any information on this site phone the people who host the inspection and ask if this is an automatic fail. Have you scanned for codes to see which bag is causing the issue? The ones under the seat can be very problematic but they can be fixed sometimes by unplugged the harness under the seat and then plugging it back in.

What state are you in? I know in MA (at least a few years ago I havent read the inspectors book in the recent years) you use to be able to because the airbag is a secondary safety item (primary is seat belts) like ABS for braking

I think you guys dealt with places that really didn't give a f*ck. One time I did not pass for a damn license plate bulb being out. I mean really anal. But now I have no cat, no emission stuff, BT and passed. Just had to go elsewhere.

Damn. Those guys were dicks, lol.

long as the Airbag light is operating properly they can't fail you for that.

    http://www.dmv.ny.gov/broch/c-50.htm

    Seat Belts

Inspect for proper operation and anchorage.

Model years 1969 and newer - one seat belt is required for each seating position
Model years 1967 and 1968 - two front seat belts are required (driver position included), and one seat belt is required for each seating position elsewhere in the vehicle
Model years 1965 and 1966 - two front seat belts are required (driver position included)

Your vehicle's Air Bag Warning Lamp will be checked for proper operation. You will be informed if the vehicle's air bag warning lamp is on or is not working. This is an advisement only and not cause for rejection.
In regards to the ABS light, from my understanding as long as the rest of your brake components work, stop & hold the car.. you should be good to go. Not everything on the road is ABS equipped.

Yep thats what I was saying in my previous post. Its secondary equipment so it shouldn't fail for it (depending on the state)

I was under the impression the cluster had to be clear of lights.

Its really dependent on the state (and inspector for that matter) I've had some inspectors try and fail me for things that they cant fail me for (saying I have bald tires when I'm well over the legal limit) idk if its just lack of knowledge or them just being d**ks. But I've had a few cars at my work pass with ABS lights on without a problem even had a check engine light on because of a speed sensor (smart car, huge pain in the ass) and it passed, just took some explaining to the inspector what was happening.
