Any Custom Engine Bays...Post Some Pics

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi guys, as the title says....Anyone have some custom engine bay pics you care to post up

I have my valve covers and intake manifold at the PC shop and what started as an easy decision just became a hard one. I had my hear set on gumetal valve covers and wrinkle red intake manifold, somethin similar to what i've seen with many JHM manifold upgrades. When going to the shop and looking at colors and pics of his work i had a change of heart. In the future i will also do R8 caps, and possible CF engine covers.

what im thinking so far, car is sprint blue if that matters.

    valve covers manifold
    gloss gunmetal - wrinkle red
gloss metalic silver - wrinkle red
    flat black - wrinkle red
wrinkle red - wrinkle black (color scheme kinda like an RS4 but with the wrinkle finish)
    Gloss Black/chrome - wrinkle red
    Gloss Black/chrome - Gloss Black/chrome
    Gloss Black/chrome - wrinkle black

post some pics up of your engine bay with custom valve covers and manifolds, or any other wild engine bay mods :-)

Have you considered doing close match to your Sprint Blue for both IM and VCs?
I've seen Noggy B6 S4 with Noggy IM and VCs and it really looked great.
Post up some pics once you've PCed them.

heres a few pics to get us going....love this one. The textured red vc's look hot, a wrinkle black IM would match it nice.

    shout out to Zoso7

wrinkle red and wrinkle black IM...hmmm i think this might be the winner that is clean.

shout out to Trexturk....hope he can chime in with more pics.

Sweet. Did you use the cloth variant for the box and tape for the tube or the 2" tape for the whole job?

did you do any data logging to see if there was a difference in temp. I have the gold foil on the jhm manifold and got the spacers to combat some of the heat soak...i'd like to do as much as i can to reduce the heat...it gets hot and muggy down here and its def felt while driving.

No I don't have any data, and I honestly don't think there would be any significant data. There are too many variables that you could never get the exact same test twice so any differences would probably happen well within the margin of error. But, who knows, it may have made a difference. 91gl and cabracco85 both did it on their cars, two of the fastest B6's of all time. The best way to reduce intake temps would be JHM phenolic intake spacers, and then probably a coating of DEI on the bottom of the IM, as seen on the JHM manifolds.

Another thing, the temp sensor is built into the MAF if I remeber right, so you most likely NEVER see air much warmer than ambient at that point in the intake tract.

I did it a lot for the bling too.

So when you guys were having the covers/intake manifold painted, what lengths did you go to for having everything covered up to keep dirt and such out. Was it a concern? Or would using a trashbag or something be counterproductive because it would keep moisture in?

When doing my VCs, which took about 3 weeks, I put a clean bath towel over each side. Granted, it was sitting in a climate-controlled garage the whole time.

welllllllll....here is my long over due contribution. this was a mission to do (cause of other things, not just the PC shop) I forgot the exact colors already lol but i decided to change it up last min.

For valve covers i went with IIRC a light texture red....its supposed to have a lil more texture than a matte finish, yet not as much as wrinkle. Im 90% satisfied with it but if i had to do it again i'd go with a full wrinkle. The casting on these manifolds suuuuuuuck....the underside had to have some light repairs done because of cracks and a small hole that made it through the top. The outside of the VC's once the OEM finish was removed showed allot of "rash" and casting imperfections, the VC's werent even (soe areas felt thinner than others. The textured finish did a good job at hiding some imperfections and made larger imperfections stand out more. Overall im satisfied, but the PC owner said he will gladly do them again if i ever take the VC's off again...i jus was too impatient to go through this again, my car has been done for ever a month.

The IM, i am in absolute love with, it came out flawless. I went with a heavy texture color iirc called "wurst gray" or "wurster gray", basicly a texture gunmetal and it has nice sparkle which reflects in the sun. The color in the picture doesnt do it justice...you have to see it in person. The texture, color, everything came out great. No complaints...This is also a JHM manifold and replaced my other manifold which the flap was dammaged, i took apart the old manifold and the flap is like completely seized in there.

So not only do i have a sweet engine bay, i have the restored performance from a working IM, and the JHM is just the icing on the cake....the car runs like a "sum ma bish"

added R8 caps for flair...gonna ditch the carbon fiber engine parts....
