    A7 just a fancy CC?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
When I first saw the A7 i thought it looked like nothing else out there, now I'm noticing how very similar our cars look to the Volkswagen CC..

and started wondering if we are just driving around in fancy CC's? Am i totally off basis here? Is the A7 based off the CC like the A4 comes from the Passat?

If you want to start getting technical, all these cars are just trying to ape the Mercedes CLS which started this whole trend of sedans aping the looks of a coupe.

And the platform itself is the same MLB architecture that every single Audi sedan is using right now.

The Passat still sits on the B6 platform AFAIK.

    Two things:

    1. The A4 is not based on the Passat. Has not been the case for about 10 years now.
    2. The A7 and A4 are based on Audi's MLB Architecture which is proprietary to Audi for all of their longitudinal cars (A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q5).

The only models that Audi shares architectures with are the A1, A3, Q3, Q7. The upcoming Q7 replacement will move to a variant of the Audi MLB architecture, the new Audi A3 is the first MQB Architecture vehicle which also underpins the Golf, Seat Leon, several Skodas, and will also underpin the future CC replacement.

What he said. Still amazes me that people think the higher end Audi's are just glorified VW's. You might as well say a Bentley is a glorified Audi. Still not entirely true.

    orly?

the a4 has been based off the passat from the late 90's to the b6 platform (passat).

look @ the interior of a B6 passat, then look at the interior of a B7 A4. they share the 2.oT engines among many other things.

VW is the mother company. its like saying the jaguar is not based off fords taurus and t-bird. just because its a jaguar. lol.

theres also other cars based off the passat, for example this skoda superb :

To me it is a mute point. Lexus = upscale Toyota, Cadillace = upscale Chevy, Acura = upscale Honda. Do you like the style, the features the motor of the A7? Because they can't be bought on a CC. I don't get bothered by it because it is my car, I like it and everyone else can go pound sand.

Jaguar is just a fancy Taurus? Damn, someone must have performed engineering witchcraft to turn that FWD transverse chassis into a RWD longitudinal chassis...

And the A4 hasn't shared a chassis with the Passat since the B6 chassis, 10 years ago... B7, B8 and the MLB are Audi only.

Current Passat is still a B6 chassis and it shares the same engine in the same way that the Mustang has the same V6 as the MKZ.

Audi employs longitudinal placements, VW doesn't in the Passat. Big difference.

Please refrain from spouting nonsense next time around.

Its really a shame when people dont know the history of their cars. The person you are quoting also thinks because they share the 2.0 badge, they must be the same engine...they arent.

Also, VW AG is the parent company which underneath the umbrella stands VW(the car company), Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Porsche, Lamborghini etc. etc. etc. They are the largest automobile parent company in the world.

Audi as a company has been around longer than VW the car company. There is no upscale derivative comparison like there is for Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infiniti, Honda/Acura. Those latter three companies exist nowhere else in the world except for the US. There is no rebadging of our cars.

Drive a CC and then drive an A7. If you think they are similar in any minuscule sort of way, you are driving the wrong car.

    SMH.

Acura doesn't exist, but they are sold as Honda's. There are Lexus' in Europe, my boss in the Netherlands drives one. I believe some if the Infiniti's are sold as rebadged Toyota's.

I just like the A7 and S7 for the styling eventhough there are numerous vehicles that share similarities in styling. I love the A7 and S7 for the technology, engine, and the ability to pull the complete package together at a price point I can accept. Some will agree with me and some will not... but like SinCityA6 said, pound sand.

if you read anything that i wrote, you would see that i just said that. lol.
ALSO the passat is currently on the B7 platform. google is your friend.

i dont know why people get so offended that audi's are made by volkswagen and share MANY of the same parts. its a shame.

and jaguar's S and X types are that of the ford t-bird chassis. ive been on a jag forum just for the hell of it and people say its really a fancy taurus lol. and thats jag owners saying that.

also i just did a quick google search for you:

You have a poor attitude and a potty-mouth euromob.

You should use the intellectual side of your personality and argue your point rather than argue your ego.

I actually have no problems with WV's, I like them. I guess what I was asking if the CC was based from the A7 or the other way around, they do have more than a passing resemblance. But, now I know.

Nice job ignoring the fact that the MLB platform is Audi only.

And the X Type and S Type no longer exist anyways, so good use of history that means nothing to the current models they make.

    A7 just a fancy CC?

So I travel quite often for a living, and rarely do I have the VW products as rental vehicles. Today was an exception. As I walk over to my designated spot, a brand-new black on black VW CC was waiting for me. While this is a very nice car, it is not a dressed down Audi A6.

As several have stated earlier in this thread, the chassis platform is not the same. The fit, finish, feel, and handling of the CC is nothing like the Audi A6. They are truly two entirely different vehicles.

In fact, when you think about it, the only thing these two vehicles share, outside of the parent companie's manufacturing philosophy, is their size.

Is a CC the same size as an A7?...the CC seems smaller.

The A7 will be virtually identical in size, minus headroom, as the current A6. The CC is definitely smaller, though not by as big of a margin as one would expect.
