Possible to fit GTI seats from a MK5 into a B6?

I searched but can't find anything.

I've always loved the GTI plaid, and found a set locally for sale. I was thinking about possibly swapping them into my car, but don't know if its possible without major, major work. I don't mind minor fab work, but does anyone have an idea of what I might be getting myself into here?

I'm sure it wouldnt be a simple bolt-up affair, but if you have the will you can make pretty much any seat fit. You'd have to custom fabricate mounting brackets and then there's the issue of seat airbags , which could probably be solved with some rewiring.

Thanks for the reply. I know it won't be a clean and easy swap, but I'm concerned that the rails or even the bottoms of the seats might be too wide to fit deep in the B6 seat channels... so I'm just looking to see if anyone has tried before I make an offer on the seats.

The rears are a whole other can of worms, plus I'd lose heated seats... but that's not a huge deal.

Why not pull your passenger seat and drive over there? Then you can test fit for width, etc. Or, you can take the tools and pull the seat when you get there. It only takes 10 minutes or so. Also, you can get the GTI plaid and have your rears reupholstered to match if you really like it that much.

Well "over there" where the seats are located is about 70 minutes away haha.

My brother's wife has a GTI that I'm working on next week to fix a coolant leak. I'm going to secretly take out her seat and test fit it in my car hehe, it's identical to the ones that are for sale. Plus, the seller is out of town through next sunday, so I've got some time to see if they'll work.

    I'll keep everyone posted.

you could probably have your seats reupholstered for what you would pay for the seats and not have to worry about any custom brackets or anything

I doubt I could get the recovered for what he is asking for the seats, let alone what I'm going to offer. Plus I like the bolsters on the GTI better, they fit my back better.

I suspect I might be able to sell my interior afterwards too to make back any money it costs, for some reason everyone buys leather but some people want cloth and my car also has heated front and rear seats which is unusual.

It's not possible w/o changing the brackets (the floorpans between the 2 platforms are completely different). I've owned both cars and spent lots of time disassembling the B6 interior... Sorry brosef

I have a pair of tan leather seats from my old 3.0, and I could see if the mounting rails come off. Then you would have a spare set of rails to fool around with and you could still sell your interior.

I have a mk6 GTI and a B6 so I will measure the brackets tomorrow and let you know. Almost positive mk5 and mk6 brackets are the same. I do know they use the same bolts as the B6.

I know a guy who already installed seats from mk6 to B6, but not sure if they are the same as mk5. If I meet him, I'll ask
