I have herd about this problem on this forum and then I had the same problem.
After calling Audi and realizing that this would cost money that I could put to better use, I decided to tackle the problem myself.

The main problem is that the arm controlling the flap starts to jam hence the fault reading.

    1. I took of the motor (which is located differently depending on your engine, mine was on the right hand side of the
intake manifold, side furthest from front of car).

    2. There is 3 torx screws and a small easy to loose spring holding it on.

    3. Once off open up the motor it self carefully, once again torx screws and spray a small amount of part cleaner.

    4. Then put the motor back together and spray part cleaner on the entire motor including the arm on the motor.

    5. Spray part cleaner the arm on the intake manifold as this will remove all the dirt causing the motor to jam.

    6. Then spray the arms on the motor and intake manifold with WD40.

    7. Finally Put the motor and back on to the intake manifold, starting with the small spring.

I did this on my car, only took 20 minutes and no more fault code

Saved me a heap of cash and hopefully does the same

Sorry no photos was extremely busy at the garage that day did this in between fixing cars

    Thanks for sharing!

Sorry for the dumb question, but would these steps apply to the TFSI engine, too?

You can do the same however it is in a different location and in certain cases the flap comes off with the motor.
In which case you can spray part cleaner on the flap however after spraying the WD40 you must make sure to wipe the flap down as any excess can cause problems

    Hope this helps
