    Fuel Pump Control Module

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Has anyone had any issues with their fuel pump or the fuel pump control module?

A week ago, I went to start my car in the morning and it turned and turned and wouldn't start up. Tried a few times, and it finally started up. Brought it to my local dealer, and they said there weren't any codes but they were going to order a fuel pump control module and replace it just as a preventative measure.

Friday night I was getting on the highway, was going about 70 at 3500 rpm, and the power cut out completely. Rpm dropped to 700, and the car felt like it was going to stall. Everyone in the car asked if I did that on purpose, because it literally threw everyone forward. Power came back, but then the same thing happened again. Total power loss.

Tonight I was leaving again, and the car kept turning and turning but the engine wouldn't fire up. I tried starting it 8 times before it finally fired up and started running. Luckily, my house was a mile away and I got home with no problem.

Has anyone else had a similar issue? I'm supposed to have the module replaced on Wednesday, but I'm nervous to even drive around in the meantime thinking I might get stuck somewhere.

Had the exact same issue. And, it was the fuel pump control module. Do not drive until it is repaired. Happened last summer...the exact same symptoms. Have not had any issues since the dealer replaced module.

    btw: I have 2011 S4 prestige 6mt

Have been seeing some issues with these modules on the vw/audi's lately.

Cause all sorts of weird drivability problems.

Typically when your dealer elects to do something like that so quickly, they have been seeing a lot of failures.

I am trying to find where this fuel pump control module is located. Everything points to the gas tank, but I am not seeing it there.

    Its in the fuel tank.

    – Unplug electrical connector -1- on flange.
    – If fitted, unplug electrical connector -2- for metering pump for auxiliary heater on flange.

    – Press release tab and disconnect fuel line -2- at flange.
    – Press release tab and disconnect fuel line -1- (if fitted) leading to metering pump for auxiliary heater at flange.

The fuel tank must not be more than 1/4 full when removing the flange, otherwise a large amount of fuel will escape.
    – Unscrew union nut using union nut tool -T40068 A--arrow-. (A screw driver can also be used)

    – Cover opening of fuel tank with clean cardboard -1- to prevent dirt particles from falling into the tank.
    – Remove bolts -arrows-.

    – Guide out fuel pump control unit -J538--item 1- towards interior between fuel tank and underbody.
    – Unplug electrical connector and remove fuel pump control unit.

When reinstalling the pump make sure the union nut is at the 7-o-clock position.

bumping this, I've been having continued fuel issues (G410) sensor issues that simply just pause a signal, and then it magically returns. I'm on my 4th G410 sensor, and I'm suspecting its my fuel pump control module that's failing (likely due to overdriving it at 75% PWM signal at wide-open, not what the controller was originally designed to do).

would love to, but I've been sticking to minimal mods since this car isn't a long-term car for me. $30 for a used on on ebay, can't go wrong lol

Just ordered fuel control module from ECS, hopefully this my issue. I’ve encounter exactly what Loe is describing, I’ll post back.

day 1, thus far so good. My shop said that they were battling something similar on an A6 3.0t (which BTW uses the same same Fuel Pump Control module, which in theory should be able to drive an S6/RS7 fuel pump....just saying...), all codes pointed towards a LPFP on ODIS (VAG group diagnostic tool), they replaced the LPFP, still the same issue, HPFP, same issue, once the controller was replaced, no issues.

Hopefully this will work, my codes pop up after a week so I'll report back then. G410 #4 now. That 75% PWM signal life...

Make sure you order the correct one, I ordered the incorrect part from ECS. They will exchange for correct part and they were prompt too, awesome customer service.
OEM part # 4G0906093G (superseded now by letter J) currently on my car. I received 8K0906093E, it has a different pin connector and unit is much larger. You have to pull fuel filter out to gain access to module. Moral of the story, check the part before you order

yeah, the bottom one is the pre-FL model that uses a brushed-style pump.

So far so good on this new-to-me control module.

Not sure that this is directly related but on the topic of fuel pressure I was curious if anyone has had or heard of a fuel pressure sensor going bad?

Even before swapping my LPFP and adding the Torqbyte PM4 controller I was experiencing some rough starts, failed starts and occasionally had some weird fluctuations of the idling where it would idle really high and dip up and down....now I also saw a code for evap as well and these are supposedly all symptoms of the sensor failure

    Thoughts?

Replace your module, I doubt its the sensor.

The Torqbyte PM4 actually replaces the OEM fuel pump control module so I doubt that this is the issue since it was happening prior to installing the PM4

OK, I misread your post. Sensor it is.

No worries....I’m going to start with the sensor because it seems to be the most simple choice.....good news is that I’m still under warranty and my Audi dealer does a lot of my mods so it’s covered

The more I read about these issues the more I see that it could be a lot of different things causing them....anything from clogged filters to failure of the sensors (LPFP and HPFP) and even the actual pumps themselves

In my case I don’t think it’s the LPFP or Torqbyte controller as these are brand new and I don’t think it’s the HPFP since it was recently rebuilt with the Autotech piston and a new cam follower....one of the filters was pretty badly clogged but it was discarded when they installed the Hydramat so I’ll have to have them check the other one
