Intake Manifold Runner Control Motor Warranty extension?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I recently got a check engine light for IMRC.
When I went to Audi and asked them about it they did not mention any warranty extension or recall when I asked if that was the case they told me they would have to do a diagnose it and then fix it.
Has anyone else got theres replaced through the warranty because I searched and found this bulletin. I just feel like the dealership is trying to play dumb and get here $600.

I searched and just found DIYs or other related posts nothing addressing the warranty other than VW forums.

Got mine done too. Went in for an oil change and asked about recalls/campaigns and had that all fixed. It's not a warranty item, but a recall/campaign. When they type in your VIN it should automatically come up. Although I just noticed you have a 2008 and I don't think that year is part of it.

Yeah! I called Audi earlier and they told me my Vin doesnt show it. Too unfair haha They want near $600 to do it and the local shop wants $350.
I found the part for $90.00, probably gonna end up doing it my self not really in the mood to be robbed

That' very strange. I have a 2008 and they replaced everything under the warranty extension. This includes PCV, IMRC, Thrust Sensor, code updates, etc.

Did you ever get this resolved Axis?

Also, lucky me....I am now outside of the warranty period and am finally getting codes related to my intake flap motor I have heard though that you don't need to replace the whole unit...That the real root cause of the problem is "sticky" flaps and that can be resolved by opening everything up and cleaning up the dirt/oil/etc that has accumulated over the years. Is that true? Has anyone had luck doing that?

Alternatively, you can just replace the flaps inside I heard and not the whole motor?

Thanks 80sguy and I know, but I'm at 122k now

Has anyone who has had issues with their intake manifold runner ever tried to open it up and clean it or replace just the flaps inside?

That is the cost effective way to fix it versus just replacing the whole unit (unless of course Audi is paying for it).

Talk to AoA sometimes they will consider the warranty work. Also technically your mileage starts at the in service date of the car so your mileage may less than what's displayed on the odometer.

Audi of Canada in my case but yes, already tried that and got refused

As an update on this....the intake manifold runner is actually only an electrical solenoid or motor so nothing to "clean" inside of it but if I remove it apparently, I will have direct access to the intake manifold flaps and may have luck using using brake cleaner to clean them and prevent them from "sticking"....

New OEM IMCR is like $250 up here So gonna try this cheap method first, even with no guarantee it will work....

Can't you just take the intake manifold off? It's not as hard as many think and you can do some valve cleaning while you're there. [Wrench]

I could take it off and do a valve cleaning but that would be unrelated to my IMRC error code.

I probably will do it, but taking off the IMRC is considerably less work than the whole intake manifold. As I understand, the flaps should be directly under the IMRC attached to the outer portion of the intake manifold, correct?

Also, brake cleaner may not be the best cleaning solution in the area because it is not combustible in case it gets into the combustion chambers...Maybe using carb spray would be safer? Not as good cleaning agent but safer....

Has nobody else on here ever personally replaced their own IMRC?!
