    Tiptronic Strategy ?

I've searched high and low for what I thought would be pretty common...

On my B5.5 Passat I was able to recode through vcds the Tiptronic strategy from New to Old (Doesn't downshift and holds gears until you tell it to upshift)

Is this still changeable on 2005 A6 4.2? I really hate having it downshift when its in tiptronic, and i hate that it wont let me upshift if its to the floor until it hits a predefined shift point.

Please tell me this is doable! (and how)

i drove 90% of the time in manual mode on my 2005 4.2 .. preferred it over sport and auto
i do not remember having issues with mine... i can not say mine didnt behave exactly like yours bc i just dont remember
i knew how it would behave in certain conditions and it became 2nd hand ..i just never paid it any mind
i would guess that when floored it would upshift when i wanted it to
i think it would not down shift if doing so would put it in redline that i remember but i learned it so well
that i never was in a situation where i downshifted when it wasnt ready for a DS

that said ..im not sure if VCDS is any help...most likely only w b5.5 ... in the C6 what would be the "OLD" and what would be the "new"
maybe theres a way to remove the safety nets and make it 100% manual

btw with the 3.0 i prefer sport mode ..90% of the time im in sport mode
the driving style i adapted to w the 4.2 just cant apply to the 3.0
current setup is not perfect for my taste and wish i could tweak it but likely not doable
im going to see how it behaves with the apr tune

My 3.0t C6 tip holds the gears up to the point of redline, then it will shift to avoid damage regardless if you want to or not. As far as I know, that is not adjustable. I also can up shift in Tip at anytime regardless if I'm hard down on the pedal. I know this because I find the "sweet spot" for the power curve and shift there. After about 6500 rpm, the 3.0t starts nosing over and dropping boost and power.

All this could be attributed to the different model years and motor types.

yeah that little button when you press the gas to the floor...when the "old strategy" was enabled that button would no longer make the car downshift in tiptronic. My biggest gripe is at about 5500 rpm or so i hit + for an upshift and it doesnt shift until its almost at redline (gas to floor). Seems kind of useless to me.

This is the definition from a b5.5 forum

    1) Tiptronic strategy "old" means: when the selector lever is shifted into the Tiptronic gate, the transmission shifts up and down when the selector lever is shifter forward (+) or rearward (-). If the vehicle is braked to a standstill, first gear is automatically engaged.

Tiptronic strategy "new" means: when the selector lever is shifted into the Tiptronic gate, the transmission automatically shifts up or down before the RPM limit is reached. It also downshifts automatically when the accelerator pedal is depressed to kick down.

It basically was just changing the coding in VCDS from 00010 to 00000
