Inner front axle bolts, what size socket?

Perhaps I just searched all the wrong places, I find the DIY's, but none of them stated what tools were used. And actually, not only what size socket are those, but also the center big one.

The big one is a 17MM allen socket.

The others are a 10MM 12pt Internal wrench. You can get the kit at Autozone. The part number is 25015. You will use these alot there.

They are actually made by OEM, and I have had my set for years and never broken one even on an impact.

Haha no worries, you can get the 17mm socket 1/2" drive from Sears (Craftsman of course.)

    Big damn allen.

Yep. It takes an equally big breaker bar, ratchet, and/or cheater bar to get it loose too.

The six inner joint bolts are 10mm triple square bolts. If your going to do a lot of work on an Audi than I recommend getting an 8mm, 10mm, and 12mm triple squares along with a good stubby Allen and Torx socket sets.

yeah even on an impact it didn't move. Like JimmyBones said, it takes alot of breaker bar and someone pushing on the breaks to take the sucker off.

With that being said, I'm going to torch it for a minute and hope with it being heated, I can loosen it with my pinky and drink my tea with my other. An impact didn't get it off?! You sure it just wasn't a weak impact? I've taken some off before with one and they eventually came off after sitting there WOT with the impact for maybe a minute IIRC. Kinda sucks though, because once this gets replaced, the list continues , I know I need at least a RF wheel bearing, coils, and possibly a new fuel filter or fuel pump. I'm hoping it's just the filter; makes somewhat of a knocking noise when you turn the key on and it primes as well as hesitation when accelerating. One thing after another you know, but hey, that's expected; fun replacing things, just not the money in the wallet!

Haha no it is a 800 ft/lb impact (NAPA). The problem is the vibration it puts into the allen wrench. It really takes away from the impact effectiveness of an impact. I also had the air up to 120psi haha.

Also heating it isn't a good idea, it may ruin the boot on the CV axle.

It isn't really that it is rusted. It is the fact that the bolt is torqued to 200nm (148ft/lbs) plus an additional 180 turn with red locktite... That is damn tight.

Put heat to it for about a minute and it came off with nearly the use of one arm, a breaker bar, and a cheater bar but I don't think the cheater bar was even necessary. The heat I don't think would harm anything, even if it were to ruin the boot it wouldn't matter if that's what your replacing anyhow. Had to spend 40+ on sockets though, couldn't buy just a single allen and triple. Super fast job though, next time I bet I could have it done within a hour.

This is what I use to break loose the axle bolts.

No it was not necessary to use for wheel bolts but this is my big ass pipe I always grab anytime I don't feel like breaking my back to get something loose

Would make sense if you were replacing the CV axle should have figured that is what you were doing.

I was going to say with the lug bolts damn those must have been tight and then I read below haha.

....for the times when you have to jump up and down on the pipe to break the bolt loose.

Your right, and I couldn't be happier with no vibrations anymore. Was a little lead footed for a little amount of time enjoying it after the fix.
