How do I get rid of exhaust rasp?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just had my catless trexturk downpipes installed. I already had an Autospeed cat back on the car. The exhaust now sounds amazing untill wot then it is extremely raspy. The exhaust is a true dual and looks to have resonators. Would installing an x-pipe help?

I have read that some only have rasp when the car is cold, mine happens all the time. Also the dps are brand new is it possible for the rasp to go away with time.

Any input would be great thanks!!

X-pipe will help, but you probably need bigger resonators (more interior volume to absorb the sound). Rasp is common when it's cold, and it will not go away with time.

The resonators look to be 12 inches or bigger

I have Milltek DPs with custom high flow cats welded in matched up to the Magnaflow 16689 RS4 system and I get a pretty harsh rasp when going WOT.
I even called Magnaflow about it but they were of no use.

My old Milltek catback didn't rasp and neither did the FI system after that but the Magnaflow does.

I don't hate it but if I could get rid of it that would be great.

    No it didn't.
But it DRONED like a mother.
Even after I put in the high flow cats and 14" resonators.
That's the reason I moved onto Magnaflow.

How do I get rid of exhaust rasp?

FI sounds sweet but it is 1000 bucks.. I kno the mufflers are different but that exhaust does have an x pipe. Should I try the x pipe?

I see Autospeed is not a popular exhaust, maybe the rasp is why. I mean the exhaust sounded amazing before the downpipes I just wanted it a bit louder but I wanted to keep the base of the exhaust.

Anyone on the forums have an Autospeed exhaust on there b6??

I had rasp, but only when cold when my exhaust was new. It took several months until it mostly went away. Always sounded better after it was warm.

i have a similar setup to you minus the cats, and im a sedan...but the rs4 magnaflow does have a pretty pissy rasp...wot almost gets annoying at times. Im affraid of putting resonators and losing the rumble tho. Do you have sound clips.

I have found that catless = rasp
my catless (piggied) B6 with Mag c/b sounded great, but always had the rasp and drone
where as my B7 XS high flow cat d/p's and mag race c/b has NO rasp or drone :/

true duels and no resonators on either setup, so i don't know anything about those. the stock setup had resonators and was soo quite, couldn't tell if engine was running

What's the largest resonator you can fit under the car? 12" is quite small. On my old Integra GS-R I had a 22" Magnaflow (2.5 in/out). Zero rasp, even in the dead of winter from that little 1.8 four-banger.

I think that rasp and drone are in the "ear of the beholder"

I have milltek catless DPs and a FI catback with 14"resonators and I love every second of it.

Any catless exhaust will give you some drone or rasp IMHO

I have next to no drone I just want less rasp...you have the FI with x-pipe? How much rasp do you have? Would you happen to have a sound clip? Thanks

Why do people say that FI is expensive. I dont understand where you guys get exhausts for cheaper.
Can someone please provide me a link so I can buy a real exhaust.
I'll take anything, Magnaflow, Milltek, ect...

Right now I'm on Milltek catless dp's and stock catback with muffler delete. I need to change it up a bit to sound more refined.

Re: How do I get rid of exhaust rasp?

Resonators definitely help. When I got my hpipes (which were basically a resonator delete and an h) the rumble sounded awesome cruising around and accelerating under 4k.

Once over 4k getting on the gas I hate the raspy frappyness it has.

Like Euroswagr mentioned though, exhaust is a pretty personal thing.

Skip to about 25 seconds in

Honestly, I'm thinking it's just the sound of a poorly-engineered exhaust system. The reason some of those expensive setups sound so nice is because they devote a ton of R&D to tuning that sound: muffler sizing, baffles, packing material, bends in the pipes, resonator type, etc. Cheaper systems just slap a muffler on the tubing without any time spent on getting the right sound.

Not saying this as a knock on you, just explaining why some exhaust systems seem to have a very desirable noise.

X-pipe will smooth out the exhaust flow, yes. Won't reduce rasp but should give a more refined sound.

The more I listen to others I don't mind the rasp so much mines like an annoying clapping.

Should I experiment with the x-pipe ??or just go for the FI catback and sell mine ??

My opinion is to buy the FI system, which has been tuned for a very nice sound.
