Not sure what they would charge. I am assuming it will take them about 3-4 hours to install, at least that's how long it takes me to do all 4 at home on jack stands. On a lift and with all the needed tools they might be able to do it even faster but I would plan for 4 hours of labor at least at $125 per hour if I remember correctly.
And yes, a lot of times the labor costs as much as the parts :). These cars are not budget friendly if you can't do all the labor yourself. If I had to pay for all the work I have done to my car I would be well into the $30k range now.

So true, labor on this car is insane. It's always better to do the labor yourself. Plus there are so many DIY/write-ups out there that can help you out. But, if you don't have the time to do it then 034 is a great place for Audi's.

i had these guys install lowering springs and struts on my Mercedes before and it literally took them 30 minutes. It was the fastest I've ever seen, $75 per side, total was $300.

I came in right when they opened at 8, they jumped in my car and started working on it, 30 minutes later I was out the door, with it aligned and everything.

Place is called New Tire Warehouse at Santa Clara, by Central Expy.

they do a free alignment?? i need that!
my alignment was ruined by the last tire shop that did it. still riding around with a bad front alignment.

are coilovers something any shop can install? or do i need an audi specialist to do it right?

It's not rocket science, so any shop can do it. Just make sure everything is torqued properly.
If you are really worried about some shop messing it up, just bring it to 034 and they will get it done right.

You definitely need an alignment after the install though, no matter where you get it done.

    who can install coilovers?

What are recommended places for corner balancing and 4-wheel alignment? Also 034? For those of us on the peninsula, is there somewhere closer? I find it's a bitch to get to Fremont when a shop is only open M-F business hours.

Coilovers are similar to regular factory springs, except their shorter and adjustables, its the same method of installation so any shop can install them. The shop I recommended to you though in Santa Clara, installs coilovers all the time to like bmws, mercedes, hummers, rovers, etc.

Look at their pictures on their yelp page, you'll see what cars they worked on. They've installed on audis too.

I would recommend going there since its a one stop shop and they'll get you out the door in no time. They open on saturdays and they wont give you a hassles, they'll get you out within an hour, all aligned and everything. Like I said $75 per side, so $300 total. Im not sure if alignment is free, but if not, it should be like $50 or something.

The first shop listed below has a lot of good reviews from a lot of car forums that I have researched. They are pricey but worth the money. You got to make an appointment with them though. If you want a good alignment without a hefty price you can always go to Auto Innovations in Milpitas. Ask for Orlando he's a great person to deal with.

Might be greed for you, however I assure you a 4-wheel alignment will be professionally done at Custom Alignment - all my A4s have been there for 10 years, never a problem.
As to those saying above "any shop can install coil overs" - thats pure BS, tire shops are clueless re coil over installation, most are challenged to mount nice rims w/o messing up their surfaces and likely would slap balance weights on outside surfaces.
Alternate in MV: Sonic Motorsports - they're an authorized KW dealer, not sure which brand you're looking to install.

There are probably more involved for the $250 they quoted you.

euromob, if you are concerned about the costs and quality, I already told you where the best place to go to New Tire Warehouse in Santa Clara, they've installed coil overs on audis and porsches too.

for alignment, if you dont want to go to the same shop, I'd recommend Aligntechs in San Jose, they got 5 star reviews with over 60 reviews, I guarantee you the price for your alignment would be under $100, and that's 4 wheel. I HAVE got my alignment for my 4.2 quattro AWD from them and its straight as brand new.

Guarantee you these are the best deals you can get as it is, compare to other recommendations here from other powersports who charge "by the hour" and will probably cost you too much.

With the shops I told you with already positive reviews as it is and guaranteed quality. Your total service costs would not even go over $400 I guarantee you. Most likely your total for coilover installation and alignment would be about $375 tops.

Most tire shops dont even work on suspensions at all, just tires. We're talking about actual auto shops here that does repair on any type of issue including suspension.

An auto shop would have to be a dumbass if they dont know how to install coil overs or refuse to install them. Like dolphin said, its not rocket science.

    ^^ this.

i knew about firestones lifetime alignment. because i called them up and asked if they knew how to align AWD audi's. the guy on the phone sounded like a retard. "uhhh yea i think so, as long as its not an ADVANTA model" lmfaoo

then i asked if they can adjust the camber and toe in the alignment and the guy said "audi's dont have camber".

then i asked if they apply load to the suspension and he says "uhh only if we really need to"

so i hung up because they obviously will ruin my car. so like above says, u get what you pay for. and u cant trust a retard to do your alignment properly.
im sure those guys can align the hell out of a 1984 ford pickup truck tho.

stevens creek audi. they aligned my car for $180.
never thought a dealership would charge less for an alignment than an alignment shop.

Good to know you got proper alignment, at dealer with at least 1 warranty.
IMO and from my experience dealers and high cost alignment shops have the proper equipment to properly align these cars - may seem pricey up front.

this is true, but if an indie shop charges as much or more than a dealership for the same job, its kind of a "oh hell no" in my book.
