2011 A4 - (AMI) Stuck on Audi Music Interface: The device is being initialized.

    Hey,

When I go to the media, I get stuck on the following screen:

    Audi Music Interface:
    The device is being initialized.
    Please Wait...

A couple of weeks ago, everything was working fine. Then, I plug in my iPod one day and it hangs on this message for awhile before saying my device could not be read. So I unplug the connector a few times to try and 're-seat' the connection, but it still doesn't work.

I get a new connector and everything is working fine for about a week. I then connect my iPod one day and it is hanging on the screen above. It doesn't matter if I unplug the connector, reseat the old/new connector, etc... I still get the same screen.

I also have access to a Vag-Com if that would help with the diagnosis.

    Any advice or suggestions?

    Thanks!

Did you try to reset the MMI? It's a Ctrl-Alt-Del style 3-finger salute using the Setup button, center wheel button, and the top-right corner button. Google image search for 'reset mmi' and you'll see several helpful images. I've definitely seen that same message before, and resetting the MMI seems to have resolved the issue for me.

I think that only works for the older MMI dash. I looked that up before i posted this thread in hopes i could just do a reboot, but couldnt find anything. I tried the same three button combinations, but had no success.

Here is a picture of what my MMI looks like: http://i.imgur.com/WMRqHJT.jpg

Ill go ahead and give it another shot thou. Thanks for the response.

The reason that the MMI reset procedure doesn't work is that you don't have MMI.

If you don't have the controls by the shifter, you don't have MMI, it's just that simple.

There is no reset procedure for chorus/symphony radios.

Gotcha. So if there is no reset procedure, how can I get this screen "un-stuck". Take it to the shop most likely?

You can hole the mute/volume on the radio for 10-15 secs until it reboots.

This works in "restarting" the AMI. However, still stuck on the screen.

I tried this. No Luck. I also tried swapping in different iPods, but that doesn't work. It's like it doesn't even recognize it. I pull the adapter out and the screen is the same.

Change the source to CD or SD and then back to AMI?

That was a good idea. Unfortunately, it did not work. Still stuck on the screen when switching between sources.

Not sure. Gonna just take it to a local shop and see if they can just give me a quick, simple fix. I'll report back when I get it fixed.

Having the same issue with my AMI. iPod and iPhone both start charging when connected but the screen is stuck on initializing, and I don't get the Audi logo on the iPod. System was working fine an hour ago..not sure what's changed.

For what it's worth...I've fixed this problem nearly permanently by resetting my iPod, re-syncing it with iTunes, and doing a graceful ejection from my computer (actually using the eject button in itunes instead of ripping the cable out)

I've encountered this also and what i found was that the car is picky when you connect your iphone. What i did was unplug the iphone, start the car, MMI is initiation complete, then plug the iphone in. I had this only the one time though.

Having this problem now. My car never had an issue with my iphone until a couple weeks ago. I have reset my iphone, but it still has issues and says it cant read it (the MMI). Car goes in on tuesday to have them deal with the miserable dash rattle from all the plastic in the guage cluster. Will try resetting the MMI as well and see if it works. My older Ipod works fine and has always. For some reason it wont read the phone.

Guys, I would like to ask you.

How to flash AMI with the latest FW, when it just doesnt appear under SW update menu? It is stuck with some kiund of strange flash menu, it disturbs even my radio, whole MMi is slowed down and when i try to switch to ami, it is stuck in some kind of update loop, showing "updating software"´. And with common update CDs even 5150 or 5570 its not in the possible flashable units under the flash menu... Also I put GND to pin4 according to web hints with no change... still it shows up in MMI, it shows up in engineering menu, but is missing in flash units-selection menu and also cannot be reached by VAG...
Any idea how to fix this? it is 4E0035785 HW09 SW0170 with SW-Date 15.08.06
