Side skirt bent, is it fixable?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!

I was parking my car today and noticed the side skirt trim seemed to be sticking out. Upon further inspection, it seems the underbody was bent as well.

I haven't hit anything but I have had some work done to my car recently.

What do you think about the damage? Is it fixable?

Looks like it was jacked up from a point that it shouldn't have been.

The door blade/side skirt is the least of your worries, dude - it appears that your whole rocker panel is caved in.

If the car was jacked up without using the (marked) pinch weld under the front of the front door, then yep, this is what would happen. Fixing it will require pulling out that rocker panel, straightening it, re-attaching the door blade and re-painting. Not an ideal thing to have happen.

Hope you find a good shop that can repair it properly...

Sigh... Thanks for the reply. That's what I was fearing the most. It just sucks taking your car somewhere and getting it back in worse condition than you left it. I know it's going to bother me until its fixed.

I have the exact same thing on my car except for the blade coming off. I'm thinking of talking to a paintless guy to see what's possible.

+1, although chances are they will deny it as they would have clearly seen the damage but they pretended like nothing happened when they gave the car back to you.

I'm going to start doing this from now on. I'm pretty sure it was done with a lift with adjustable arms.

It sucks because obviously the person who did it knew but didn't say a word.

I don't want to point any fingers because I don't have any proof but in the past few weeks I've had a performance alignment done, stage 2 installed, new tires installed at Americas Tire, and a full service car wash. All done at very reputable shops in LA/ Orange County area. It could have been any of the above...

If they're truly reputable shops then they'll probably be open to working with you. If not then you'll know who to avoid in the future.

Wow - how did you not immediately notice that you had a massive dent in your rocker panel after you picked it up from whichever shop did this to your car? That is going to be a big repair bill and the shop should be 100% liable.

If I were you I'd take it immediately to Americas Tire. Alignment they don't lift the car off tires, stage 2 installed can be done with the car down, car wash does not require car to be lifted. So I'll bet it was Americas Tire... and given you only took it there for tires I'll bet they had some rookie swap your tires and he effed up your car...

You make a valid point. I am going to talk to America's tire.

I didn't notice because I was in a rush getting new tires installed on my lunch break. Lesson learned though. I've been burned too many times giving people the benefit of the doubt.

I just got a quote for this to be fixed and no insurance involved its going to be almost $800.

The damage in the pictures below was estimated at $690 dollars to repair. When all was said and done, total cost was ~$2000. Luckily I didn't have to pay for it. It's a pretty involved process to repair the rocker because it is connected to the rear quarter and door pillars....

Same thing happend to me, today I took it to get the wheels changed at a shop close to my house and then I got a call from the guy telling me he doesnt know how to jack the car. I told him to leave it alone and that my wife would pick it up because I was at work. She picks it up(she has no experience with car inspection) and takes it home. I get home from work and inspect the car, then I see this:
I went straight to the shop and the guy is denying it, its obvious it was him. He then said he'll help and pay half, mind you i dont think he has any idea how expensive it is. I then told him he has to pay it in full.
He asked to get a quote and he will "see."
    What should I do?

When he sees the quote he will probably stop offering any sort of compensation. It's going to have to be pulled which is labor intensive. Then add the cost of a respray. My quote was around $1500 for an insurance claim. I would make him pay your deductible and file a non fault claim to get your car fixed right. I didn't get America's tire to help me out at all, now ill be paying for some noobs mistake.

My rockers caved on both side a body shop with a solid metal worker should be able to fix them. I looked in to replacing them not worth the $$$$
