Shark fin cover is ripped off and I need to replace the cover.

Do I have to take down the headliner, or is there access in that light fixture somehow? If it is in the light fixture are there any pictures around on how to remove this thing, so I can get the cover back on? The screws come up to the fin cover, so I need to remove the base. Does the base come off without messing around with the inside of the car? I am hoping to get the dumb fin back in place. Did a search, but really didn't come up with how to get that base off.

Thanks for any help or a link.

Yes, the shark fin as it has been called. Can you get it off there to replace it without taking down the headliner? I can't seem to find an answer via a search. Found a lot of crap, but how the heck do you get that off to refit the fin? Anyone know?

I would suggest removing the rear dome lights; you might be able to get to it from there. I would assume Audi designed it so that you can get to it fairly easily rather than take off the whole headliner...

^ You assume Audi engineers would have made something easy?

Pretty wild no one knows. I will have a look at the dome light and report my findings. I mean the car is an '05 and no one has replaced the shark fin. I am the only one. lol

They did indeed make it VERY easy! I took out the rear headliner light unit only and easily replaced the shark fin antenna cover. It took a few minutes. All you need is a 7/8ths wrench, yes I know it isn't metric, but I had access to a really thin wrench that worked great. You also need a number 8 hex to take the fin itself off. It is so easy and I am shocked no one on here knows squat about such a thing. Anyway, if someone does a search, hope this helps. Simple as it gets.

It's not a common part to replace. For those that have the first thing they probably did was pop off the dome light, so they never needed to ask the question. Glad you got it sorted.
