is the A5 exciting enough at 211 horsepower?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So currently i have a 2011 370z but am considering an A5 or S5,for those with the A5,is the 211 horsepower enough?

From my understanding the A5 comes in a 2.0 and 3.2?

    2.0 has 211 horsepower and the 3.2 with 265.

I am considering a jump from the Z because i need a back seat for my 2 year old son.

With that being said 211 horsepower seems a little less for this car.

Any insight would be great,i could possibly go into a S5 however from a price factor i can get into a much newer A5 with S line for the same price as a older S5.

I know i should test drive first but i just wanted to get some feedback.

It is a tough question to answer.
Many in general will say the 211 HP is enough, but on Audizine, many will say 211 is not enough, then again, you have S5 owners on here tuning and going to 400+ WHP, so for them 211 was certainly not enough.

This is totally a personal question and best thing you need to do is drive the car for as long as the dealer will let you.

If you need a back seat, get an s4. If you do get a a5 2.0t, you can always do an ecu tune to increase power

Like others have said, it's not that easy of an answer. I've never driven a Z, so I can't compare. The nice thing about the 2.0 is that there are lots and lots of performance upgrades out there. So if you're not happy with the performance, it's easy to make it faster. That being said, you can't go wrong with the S5.

Before you do this, search on here in the B8S4 and B8A4 forum for "TD1." If you tune, you are in major danger of blowing your entire powertrain warranty

No, it's not enough HP. That's where tuning comes into play!

I've driven the 350Z and while it's a fun car the power difference isn't noticeable because the quality difference is so much better. Little differences in build and everything are so nice to have. I came from a late model STI and don't miss the ~100 horsepower for a second. I'll be tuning/exhaust etc down the road but it's such a nice car out of the box. If you can go S5/S4 you won't regret it either though.

A stage 2 A5 is decently quick, but won't be as fast as a 370z. For reference, a 370z is 0-60 in 4.8 and my stage 2 A4 avant is 5.6 seconds. It's decent and quick, but not fast. However, if you do get an A5 and add the K04 kit, it will no doubt be faster than a 370z.

I got the S4 for practical reasons and don't get me wrong I looove the car but every time I see an A5/S5 I break my neck trying to catch another glimpse of it and hence why I'm hanging out in this part of the forums Get the 5, it is an amazing and very special car.

A brand new A5 sline is a great compromise between power, luxury and 4 seats. The 2.0t is very peppy and makes 260ish ftlb of torque due to the variable valve timing. The 2.0 excels after 3000rpm and is a pleasure to drive.
If you are like me, I picked up the A5 premium sline because of the looks, the options, the fuel economy and the back seats. I have a baby seat in there and Im the coolest dad picking up my kid at the day care :)

That is so true. I test drove the S4 first and the A4 after and the A4 felt so ridiculously slow.

i had the g35 coupe with the DE motor and a g37 sedan with the HR motor. yes they are faster. does that make it more exciting? no.

i have more "excitement" in my a5. yea its slower, but im so much more happy because

    1) 2.0 = great on gas
    2) turbo = make more power if u ever wish
    3) its sexy as fck
    4) sometimes u dont even want to drive fast and just cruise and break necks

I love my 2.0T, its plenty fast for a DD IMO

but if it were an auto, I'd probably be thoroughly bored with it, but that goes for just any auto, unless its in a completely different price range

I love my 2.0, but wanted more powerrrrrr so I went K04 and it's perfect now with all my mods.

I opted for the 2.0 because I wanted to mod the car. Now, Miss Ipanema will petty much walk over any prefacelift s5.

With the S5 your mod options are limited....

depends. 211 is sufficient for most in town and highway driving but definitely not."ENOUGH" It is never ever enough. Also like someone said don't test drive a faster car if your not going to get it. Before I got my S4 I was going to order an A5 in a custom color since I didn't want the V8 S5. But I drove my friends S4 stage 2 with racegas one day, and I told myself,"I cant settle on less power than that so I ended up getting a 3.0T S4.

I have the 2013 cab with the 2.0. I have had 2 a4s and a q5 and prior to that, a passat. All variations of the 2.0. Growing up,turbos were taboo. Lag, underpowered, etc. I also had the 3.2 and other engine heavy vw products. The lighter engine version handles better. Of course you could put in sport suspension with the s5. Then you plunking down quite a few quid,

I love this engine. I was even considering the a6 2.0. I have never tuned any vw product. It's sufficient the way it is. However, if you plan on racing the thing or you just like to play with your toys, then mod it up. Get an extra 40 or 50 out of it.

I'm very happy with the 2.0T. But my car is just a weekend driver and only used for casual drives, bopping around town, and the occasional in-state road trip.

I had a 2003 350Z, sold it and bought a 2012 A5. The A5 is much more refined, better mileage, better build quality and materials.

In terms of everyday real world performance, it handles better than the Z, the advantage of Quattro over rear wheel drive in reduced traction driving cannot be overstated. It is allegedly down by 76 HP from my old "Z", but I don't miss these ponies at all. the midrange torque of the 2.0T is awesome. The A5 is the best car I hve ever owned. I wouldn't even think of going back to the Z.

Having said that, if you can spring for the S5, I would do it.

It is exciting because there is plenty of torque way down as low as 1,700 but as soon as you get used to the power, it deems less exciting. Having said that, a simple stage 1 tune will fix this. Thereafter, a stage II tune even more so. At a later stage, a KO4 kit.....

Having driven both, owned a 300ZXTT, have a 350Z in the family, and now own a A5 2.0T... I can say that it will feel quite different. The power delivery of a turbo motor alone is going to feel drastically different, especially this one with a lot of torque down low and not much hard pull to redline like the VQ motor in the 370Z. The AWD feel is different from RWD (obviously, I know) and that factors in to feel AND power to the wheels, in addition to the difference in numbers. THEN there's the weight difference. So all in all, different cars completely; they are both coupes but... other than that...

I came from a MKIV GLI 2.0T as my DD and now to this, so that comparison was more in my mind when swapping than going from a 330rwhp 300ZXTT to the A5. That being said, more is more... usually. The revised APR software for the 2.0T will make a big difference, but don't expect the pull to redline, power-to-weight and dynamics to be the same; just, different. I love both cars. Still plan to have a 370Z as a weekend car down the line. They're phenomenal cars.

Long story short: go drive one. Especially a manual. I just had a B8.5 A4 AT as a rental and was bored with it.

Totally agree with this post. Also read a few forums where they dyno'd the 2.0T and it is actually making more power than 211 (more in the 240 range). I have a 6 speed and never had a problem with lack of power since the engine has a lot of torque to pass without even needing to downshift. I came from a Acura TL Type S and I really don't feel that the Acura was that much faster than the A5 - plus you're never going to use that much power unless you track the car.

I also have a babyseat in the back and the daughter loves to go vroom vroom in the A5 versus her mom's MDX. I think as long as you get the six speed you won't regret it - and if the need for speed, you can get a good bang for your buck on mods for this engine.

I love my 2.0 due to the gas mileage being so friendly. I'm sure the 3.0T would be awsome with decent gas mileage but for dd I can't complain. Planning on upgrade to KO4 in very near future.

Now just imagine if it was in an A5 where the car weighs 300+ lbs less.

Re: is the A5 exciting enough at 211 horsepower?

    Stage 2+. Fast as shit.

Chip it, exhaust, HFC/tp, HPFP upgrade.....close to 275 HP.

That'll do, all for about $3,000. No brainer. No loss of gas milage if you don't hammer on it all the time, which I do. :D

I currently have a G37 Sedan and I too have been lusting after the A5, I feel that the power is still acceptable even though I have a full suite of bolt ons and straight through exhaust. The power delivery just seems nicer and there aren't enough good things to say about the 6MT that the Germans use compared to my "jalopnik feeling 6MT in the Infiniti." I'm looking into leasing/purchasing one soon and I think I will be happy with the 2.0t, but like others said there is lots of fun to be had either way :)
