So I have found what my ticking noise is coming from...

    _________________________________________

My right bank exhaust is leaking. There are 3 bolts that secure the exhaust manifold to the catalytic converter. The top bolt and stud is not there. My question is, where do I go from there? I already have all the hardware: manifold to cat gasket, 3 new studs, 3 new bolts, new exhaust clamp

Its such a tight squeeze in there with the bottom frame / subframe / support in the way. What is easiest but quickest way you guys would do this fix? I have a 5 - 8 hour window tomorrow where I can wrench on the car without any constraints. Hoping I can do the repair then

Are you sure you're talking about exhaust manifold to cat? The exhaust manifold is connected to the turbo on the 1.8T. Which engine do you have?

Edit: Ahh from your avatar I can see the chrome trim so 3.0. I'm not too familiar with the 3.0 but if you think you have enough room in there you should be fine.

    Ideas?

    Right bank? V6?
    Needs to be fixed....
Hanson outs...left hand drill bits...drill and see if the broken stud will come out?
Got some PB Blaster to soak it in?

apologies, I thought my right bank comment was a big enough hint . 2002 A4 3.0 Quattro

I have an idea on how to get the stud out. Just a bit more confused on the removal part. What parts to take off and where. Is it possible take exhaust manifold of without too much major wrenching, etc. I do not think I will get these answers though. Not many are familiar with the V6. Guess only thing now is to get my hands dirty and keep in mind I need the car put back together in 6 hours.

    thanks for the feedback everyone.

so unsure if anyone cares at this point , but either case for closure...

I ended up having to drop the car off at a local exhaust shop. I ran out of time and have to go to the other jobby job soon. I laughed at the guy when he said "3.5 hours if nothing breaks." 3.5 hours is a joke but hey, my hands are tied. Pick the car up tomorrow, only hope to hear good things. wish me luck
