    Brilliant Black vs Charcoal

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know there two diff colors, but is brilliant the one that always has a nice luster shine to it, where charcoal is a little more dull? Thats what the name implies but just want to make sure.

I am looking to buy another A4 in black, came about one in charcoal, is that worth looking into at all or should I hold off for brilliant black.

    Thanks

brilliant is glossy and charcoal (volcano black i think is the official name of the color) is more dull looking.
both are good looking colors. though Id lean towards b.black but thats cuz thats what i have, lol

If it's a 99 and older, I believe it's going to be Brilliant Black (like mine). If it's a 99.5 or above, it'll be Volcano, or what Audi A4 1.8T says is Ebony Black (never heard of that, but not saying it isn't true).

Easiest way to tell if it's a 99.5 and up is the elongated side markers and one piece headlights (unless someone upgraded to OEM one piece or E Codes on a 99, LIKE ME). The side markers and wider side moldings is an easy 'give away'.

actually, they did make two different blacks for a while. My year (2000) had BB and the charcoal colored black. The charcoal colored black actually looked like a dirty brilliant black, still very cool color though.

    Volcano black is gorgeous.

Check the Auto-Bios section, Anthony had a A4 Avant in Volcano.

Thanks for pointing it out...as if audisnapr hadn't point that out in a more positive way in the post right above yours

I did say in my post I believe so hopefully it was understood that I could be wrong. I didn't state it as fact. That's what I thought and was incorrect. I was wrong <gasp> Wasn't the first nor the last that time that I'll be wrong.

Here's a list of available colors for several model years sourced from AW's Model Guide...

1997 - Bamboo Metallic / Sable Brown Mica / Casablanca White / Europa Blue / Laser Red / Autumn Red Mica / Aluminum Silver Metallic / Cactus Green Mica / Brilliant Black / Pearl White / Pelican Blue Metallic (1.8T only) / Brilliant Yellow Pelican Blue Metallic (1.8T only) / Tropic Green Metallic Pelican Blue Metallic (1.8T only) / Aquarel Pelican Blue Metallic (1.8T only)

1998 - Melange Metallic / Sable Brown Mica / Casablanca White / Santorin Blue Mica / Laser Red / Hibiscus Red Mica / Aluminum Silver Metallic / Cactus Green Mica / Brilliant Black / Pelican Blue Metallic / Brilliant Yellow / Tropic Green Metallic / Aquarel / Pearl White

1999 - Available Exterior Colors: Jaspis Green / Volcano Black Mica / Melange Metallic / Sable Brown Mica / Casablanca White / Santorin Blue Mica / Laser Red / Hibiscus Red Mica / Aluminum Silver Metallic / Cactus Green Mica / Brilliant Black / Pelican Blue Metallic / Brilliant Yellow / Tropic Green Metallic / Pearl White

2000 - Jaspis Green / Ebony Black Mica / Melange Metallic / Sable Brown Mica / Casablanca White / Santorin Blue Mica / Laser Red / Hibiscus Red Mica / Aluminum Silver Metallic / Cactus Green Mica / Brilliant Black / Pelican Blue Metallic / Brilliant Yellow / India Red / Pearl White

2001 - Jaspis Green / Volcano Black Mica / Melange Metallic / Sable Brown Mica / Casablanca White / Santorin Blue Mica / Laser Red / Hibiscus Red Mica / Aluminum Silver Metallic / Cactus Green Mica / Brilliant Black / Pelican Blue Metallic / Brilliant Yellow / India Red / Pearl White

In short, Audi started offering two different blacks in 1999, and Ebony Black was only offered in MY 2000 (at least for the years I have posted above). If you like the color, go for it. If not, hold off until you find one you like.
