    Oil capacity of 3.2 in 2005 A6

I did a lot of searching before posting, but I did not find a definitive answer. My owners manual says 8.6 quarts (8.1l), I also found internet posts stating 6 quarts and 7 quarts. What is the consensus on the actual capacity with filter change?

Put 7 quarts in to get the oil to the middle of the dipstick markings. Start the car and let it run for a moment. Top off oil since the filter system will take some.

Thanks. Sure gives me confidence that the owners manual is so wrong. Holy crap! Decided to go with Amsoil for this change.

We find a lot of vehicles take more than stated. Spin on oil filters vary in size, too. The worst one I can remember is a Nissan titan that took 8qts, but was stated to need about 6.5qts. This was a few years, so don't quote me on the capacities.

Amsoil is our favorite lube. If you're not buying at a discount, check out our website!

Same concern here when we got our car.

Consistently I found "full" to be 7.75 quarts using a napa oil cartridge.
