2013 a4 chrome grill inserts thoughts?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    hey all,

wondering what you think of the chrome inserts i put in today, 30 minutes and some 3m......if you take a close look at the edges i should have taken a bit longer haha but as a quick application just for curiosity i love it.
had this on my 09 a4 and loved it so i probably should have taken my time applying it

anyway its great from 5 feet [IMG][/IMG]

thinking of doing the lines on the fog light inserts and probablky would have but i didnt have enough i was just short maybe this weekend

thanks highlander! really beefs up the front imo. i think they made the b8.5 sleeker in the front yet it somehow looked a little less beefy at the same time

the rs4 grill doesnt fit our cars and i dont like the chrome mesh. I mostly focused on performance mods right now anyways when I am done with those I will do e-codes and focus on a new grill....

for some reason i like the chrome on the grill but i am still getting used to the chrome trim(even though the lines dont hinder the profile at all) as my 09 had the rubber trim and it def looked more blacked out from the side. i asked AoA about getting the light package without chrome trim and they said they dont produce them. didnt ask about special order though

I think it looks good! I added chrome inserts to my grill along with the gloss black plate delete and it subtly transformed the front of the car.

that plate protrudes out a bit so continuing the lines across that may not work but i think i may try. It would only be a line on each side of the plate

looks great, i have the same on my 09 now. looks very clean and subtle, took me a bit to notice them so its nice. i think you should do the lines on the fogs too, and while you're at it change the fog bulbs to some 5000k white ones to match nicely.

I think the fog grilles are overdoing it, but do whatever floats your boat.

I'll try and post some tomorrow but basically I just carefully lined them up on the tip of the lines and made sure I had an even application throughout the whole line. I could have cut the pieces angled so they meshed well at the ends with the grill surround but from 5 feet looks good enough for me

    Thanks Celiot,

I just found another thread on the same topic and realized you cut them rather than break them off. I thought these were plastic pieces. I read on the product description that these are peel and stick. Is that what yours were like or did you have to use tape?

Correct! peel off backing and then stick on its like a foam backing with adhesive on it. Estimate length then make first cut like half inch longer and then u can snip little by little to mesh the end with the angled grill surround

One last thing, I just checked the availability of these and they are listed as a special order. Was that your experience?

This mod was done a bunch by pre-facelift members. You need to measure each location on the grill and cut each piece with sharp blade/scissors. The product is not a breakable plastic. 3M tape adhesive is already applied to the roll. The 'peel and stick' means peeling the backing from the 3M tape adhesive and sticking the piece on the grill.

    "I LOVE CHROME!!!!!"

Not my cup of tea but it absolutely accentuates the grill. So if that's what you wanted, it worked.

update! saw my chrome stripping up on my mantle today and realized i should use it up just did one line on the fog grill surround i love it especially from a distance as it accentuates the lines(aggressiveness) of the front ground effects.

ill get a distance shot later as theres a car in front of me cant get the shot

^^ that looks pretty good, would have to see full shot with both but not bad, the fog grilles have a nice line to follow.

heres a couple from further away....

    [IMG][/IMG]
    [IMG][/IMG]

by the way i got my first sizeable rock chip on my hood got the touch up pen out immediatley and made it look ok from 5 feet i put a few thin coats of paint into the ding then let it dry put some clear coat on it..looked messy at furst but the vlear coat can be peeled/chipped off the non-scratch area fairly easily cause it just sits on top of the factory clear never adhering. im sure a light buff and polish would do wonders but amazingly i have yet to even attempt either of those on any of my cars basically too lazy haha

I use only the color pen. The clear coat is messy. I can only make that look good if I let it dry and even it out with some abrasive polish. Too much work for not much of a difference.

agreed the clear coat just globs on like glue and its painstakingly tedious trying to feather around the scratch and getting all the clear coat around it off and impossible to make it smooth without a polish
