Proper turbo spool sound

I get a spool / whoo noise under vacuum but no noise at all through boooooost. Ko4's and full exhaust with no cats, aftermarket DV's. I have done a lot of searching for the answer but I can't find one with the same symptoms as I.

No burning oil from the exhaust side, and i get full boost.
It is not the high pitch screech from a dentist drill scenario but the turbos are definitely vocal.

Is turbo whoo normal under vacuum only or should i start saving?

Normal, to elaborate a little more they get louder when you open up the exhaust, esp. with catless down pipes. They are also usually louder when the car's oil is still cold. Mine are especially noticeable when going under tunnels, but they sound good! Not like a high pitched drill, but like...well turbos spooling haha. From what I have been told it is a lot more apparent outside the car than in.

Your car only makes the spooling noise only during... Wait for it... Spool. Once it spools up its just suckin air.

I'll have to have someone drive it for me so I can hear. And how are your experiences with jfonz? I'm looking at getting a stage 3 fueling kit from him when the funds are up

i havent read the other thread but i have jfonze. no issues and great support. HOWEVER ive never had a second opinion so i really cant say for sure if it's good. f21's, 91 oct, full stage 3 and made 378 awhp and 429 awtq if i remember correctly.

Hard to say because nobody else will post about F21's. But what is your boost pressure? Do you have cats?

really? i thought frankenturbos were good to go?

holds 24 psi to redline in cold weather. closer to 22 in the heat. no cats. about 10k miles on the setup

outside definitely. can't even hear the k04's inside unless the windows are down but i can usually hear the wastegates opening. the k03's i could hear inside but significantly louder outside. that was with both piggy pipes and full catless downpipes (ebay 2.5" pipes). with stock downpipes, i couldnt hear the k03's at all.

Yeah they are much more noticeable outside than inside, its hard to hear them inside unless you are listening for it, IE add a little road/wind noise or the radio and you wont even notice them spooling. But from the outside I have non car people tell me that my car is making an odd noise and I have car people tell me that they can hear the turbo/s and it sounds great.

Lol, my K03's scream from around 10 inHG till 0 PSI. Kinda like a really loud dog whistle. After that you can only hear air rushing in. But it's because I'm catless and my car has an EvoMS intake.

This^ exact same thing. Scream might be a little over board in my case but I they are rather easy to hear inside the car. Makes me a little worried

well they are ticking time bombs no matter how you look at it. the sound is normal for worn in journal bearings at low rpm. are you chipped? i got my car with 107 on it and after chipping it and 8k miles they blew up.

It has nothing to do with the bearings... it's kinda like the sound of a jet engine spooling up, it's just the air making the noise. Diesel trucks do it to.
