2013 A4 S-Line standard sound system is brutal

This probably the worst sound system I've ever had in a car. Sounds ok with SOME tune on ipod but radio is awful. Anybody agree? Maybe I'm missing something.

i dont know if the 2013 standard speakers are diff from the prefacelift standard speakers (non B&O).

but IMO the non B&O speakers on my 2009 are great, of course could be better but im not usually playing at max volume and im satisfied with it, not really thinking of upgrading the speakers other than maybe the tweeters.

have you tried playing from CD/SD card with full quality files? maybe your radio signals are just bad, but then again you cant expect full bass and volume quality from radio anyway. and im assuming you already adjusted your bass/treble and other settings?

the only thing i like about the B&O system is that it does accurately (to a point) produce clear highs. the mids and lows not so much.
its still miles ahead of the Bose systems that previous a4's came with

but yes i agree i hate base sound systems

Ha, the 2011 B&O was absolute crap. I wanted the base system, but could not get it. This is an area where I think Audi really fails.

for me... B&O was a must... the base system (sounded horrible... in a premium model trim) because i wasn't going to put an aftermarket system in myself haha~

Personally, I think the B&O system is pretty decent. Could have a little more bass (both extension and output, particularly at low levels), but beyond an issue I'm having with an intermittant sub, I'm reasonably satisfied with it. As jljaudio said, much, MUCH better than the Bose system I had in my B5.

Is there a difference in the Base vs MMI speakers? I have the MMI on my 2013 and I find it to be quite good. Definitely not as nice as the Mercedes Harmon/Kardon or the Acura ELS from the other cars we have at home but it hasnt given me any reason to complain about its quality. Only thing I find is its a bit lacking in base but other than that its pretty good.

I'm not aware of any difference in the speakers, but my understanding is a B&O system on MMI does have the advantage in that a digital audio signal is maintained, but w/o MMI there is a conversion to analog.

I always get compliments on how good music sounds in my car and its the base level. Had a loaner with the higher end versions and I kept just getting pissed at the quality.

How do you utilize the SD slot I remember someone had said how but doesn't the music have to be sorted a formatted a certain way and how?

I just copy MP3 files to an SD card. I'll put them in various folders just to make it convenient for sorting purposes, but it doesn't seem to be very picky to me.

That is another advantage you get with NAV... it also includes HD radio (in 2011+, I believe). I still don't listen to it though. Just SD cards, or sometimes DVD-Audio.

i just had em as mp3 files and saved them onto the sd card. i had them in multiple folder levels too, up to 3, and it works fine.

and for the MMI 2G, the SD card has to be non-high capacity, so the cards that say SDHC (sd high capacity) are not compatible, and thats usually 2gb and lower, all 4gb and up seem to be SDHC.

If the DJ has a deep voice the sound drones so I have to turn bass down then music REALLY sucks. I realize music from tuner will always be iffy but this is the worst I've ever had. Ipod is pretty good. HD radio in my13?

You get HD radio if you get NAV (and maybe B&O, can't remember if B&O was required). At least that's how it was in '11.

In the b6 avant I have, the bose system is honestly the best sounding stock system I've ever heard, even against most of the aftermarket things my friends have or the 06 hemi c my dad has. It impresses most people that get in the car, except for my best friend who prefers to have a pair of 12" subs in the back of his car.

I have an '09 premium and will eventually replace the four door speakers. The system is alright at best, I want a louder sound.
