Doing Valve cover gasket. What RTV to use

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am planning out my valve cover gasket job. I have everything together except the RTV to seal the corners.
I have a few questions for the Guru's here.

-Should I seal the head and cover side of the gasket or just one of them? Which?
-Should I just use sealant on the corners or a thin bead all the way around?
-Which sealant would be appropriate of these? Or any other options ?

    --Red - High temp 650F

    --Copper - Max temp 700F

I have also read in a post that removing the Valve cover you are sure to break the PCV valve.
How likely is this to actually break?

    Thanks for the advice.

^Yup, Black is fine. And only put sealant under gasket-as in onto head in needed spots. See pic at end of this-

The hose at the back of the valve for PCV can become brittle, but if you are careful when removing you should be ok, or you can get a new one and play it safe. Happy

The cam tensioner gasket half moon. Is it built into my VCG ?

I got the TOPRAN GERMANY "made in DENMARK" gasket

Or is it another part I should buy and replace as well?

The gasket goes on DRY, only use the RTV on seams, corners. DON'T over do it !! Let it dry BEFORE U run the car.

no, that half-moon is for the exhaust side; the one under the CCT is separate and on the intake side

    Ok sounds good.

    Going to.

    -Use the black RTV
-Only on the corners under the gasket.
-Not on the spark plug gasket? or the half moon? This is the only place that is leaking BTW. In the spark plug holes
    -Be careful of the PVC
-Not doing the Cam gasket at this time.

^All sounds good, don't put on spark plug holes. However I'd put a small strip-like smearing it with your finger..not bead under the half moon, and of course a small drop at the half moon corners.
Also make sure head is very clean before putting RTV on.

black stuff is what i used.
Leave the oil cap off overnight so it can dry quicker on the inside.
"Are you actually asking that question.. Just don't even post on my thread. why do I need to lie on an Audi forum about me fucking two bitches at once. (not literally) yes i did, you are late to the party.
and this thread has ran out of gas. I just wanted to tell people about my experience I had 2 nights ago and felt like sharing it with my fellow B6'ers. And I thank the people who didn't hate."
