    Rear view camera not engaging?

Has anyone ever had the rearview camera all of a sudden stop working? When I put it in reverse now the screen doesn't change to the camera, however the parking sensors do work. Any ideas?

Happened to me once. Turned the car off then on and started working again.

Once in awhile, it stops working, then next time it works fine. It is one of those random gremlins (ghost in the machine), like the Audio not working or suddenly
making a loud low frequency oscillation. It eventually works fine again.

Oh yeah, that happened to me. Started flickering, kind of like static, then boom, nothing. Sensors were fine, but no camera. Dealer diagnosis was faulty chip that was installed after I bought the car because of the Japan quake problems. New chip and all is good. No problems for a year, always engages.

I've been getting this alot now starting on Friday. Warm weather has finally seemed to be consistent in Toronto and not sure if that is what's playing a role here. Been off and on all weekend. Anyone else experiencing this currently? 2011 model here.

Happened to me a bunch, got it on camera took it to the dealer and they changed a module in the camera system. Worked for a year after till I sold the car.
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

This has happened randomly during the 4 years I have had the car. No idea of cause (it happens when cold, hot, rain, snow, from start, after driving for awhile, etc.)

I gave up trying to diagnose it.

Keep us posted, what the dealer does about it.

Mine still does it once in awhile, two more months of the 4yr warranty.

Same here warranty up in July. Gonna try to get a bunch of thugs looked at before then. I have an extended warranty but would rather just take care of these things now.

Get it taken care of under warranty ASAP, as the problem may come back - took my dealer 2 or 3 repairs to finally solve the problem. Each time they replaced a separate part until the problem was fixed, pretty annoying.

The problem is, every time I take it in, the rear camera works fine. It's about as effective as trying to get the door rattles fixed.

Check the hardware connections in the trunk. Mine was doing the same thing and always worked when I took it to the dealer. I just jiggled all of the connections on the passenger side trunk where the module is located ( I believe).

I didn't have to show them the problem, they ran a test which triggered a fault. And/or you can record the problem on video and show it to them.

I had experienced several intermittent failures with the camera where after putting the car in reverse, the camera would turn on properly, but after several seconds, I'd see some distortion/noise in the picture and the camera would then cut off (similar to how it does when the shifter is placed into a forward gear and the car goes into forward motion. I opened the panel in the trunk on the passenger side and saw what appeared to be fiber optic cable connections. I think there were two cables close to each other. Sorry, I didn't take any pics but the cables didn't appear to be color coded or have color traces on them if I recall correctly - they may have been dark brown or gray in color.) At any rate, all I did was wiggle them to ensure they felt like they were properly seated in the connectors they terminated into, and following that, the camera has been working without issue ever since (it's been months now). Also noteworthy was when the failure occurred, I saw an error for the camera with the VAGCOM scan - something like "Backup Camera Intermittent Failure". After checking the connections in the trunk and clearing the error, neither the camera display problem or the related scan error has returned.

I am having the exact same issue as you described, just started today,
The only unusual thing is that i had the side parking lights on for about 36 hours (was at hospital) then I drove it a small trip without any issues, drove back to the hospital and was trying to use the reverse camera and the flicker started. After a few seconds the camera shuts off, and even when you try to re-engage the camera or turn off/on the parking system it won’t show the camera.
I will try your solution today.

One other post suggested it was an issue with the Bluetooth and contacts load or data storage.

Update: next small trip was fine.
