- Did you guys do any before/after dyno runs on this vehicle? (The APR plots are on A6's with intakes and exhausts)
- Is the owner a member of this forum? Can you ask them to post a review?
- Without dyno plots or owner comments, did your techs have anything to say? (I assume they test drove it before/after)
- How long did it take from start to finish? Could be done in one day or less?
Greetings Everyone!
This is my Q7 that GMP is reviewing, I would be more than happy to share my experiences. Since I was the first US Q7 APR tuned, it was necessary to send in my ECU. That made the whole process about 6 days. Should have been quicker, but there was some miss-communication with APR. (got a free APR polo out of the deal though, not that it helped.)
I opted for the stage 2 because I tow a very heavy boat to the lake on the weekends and wanted to take advantage of the increased torque. Before I speak to this specific tune, let me first speak to my now sold 2011 A4's tune. I had an APR stage 1 flashed too. Although the tune added a ton of power, I didn't care for the ride quality. It felt like a two-stroke dirt bike. Very peaky power, not a smooth delivery if your not deep in the pedal. Not my idea for a daily driver that my wife also drives around. So naturally I was a bit concerned to make the same mistake on a brand new Q7. After speaking to the guys at GMP, they helped reassure me that a tuned supercharger is going to deliver a more linear power delivery than my previous turbo.
I can say without question this is a great tune that exceed all my expeditions. Key tests for me: soft pedal-I like to find an empty road and barely touch the pedal (but stay consistent) from 0-70+. I look for smooth even response, power and shifting. Perfect. Heavy pedal- 0-100+ with it floored. Snaps your neck a bit now. Strong power, perfect shifting, very smooth. The towing is smoother now too, I notice it mostly at the lower speeds moving around the dock parking lots, ramps, etc. (probably my favorite aspect of the tune) None of these are very scientific, but easy for my to quantify in real world driving.
Now the fun stuff: I have a cheesy app called Dynolicious. There are a few variables you plug in and then you can do a "timed run," "skidpad," etc. Everyone will probably attack my results, but here they are anyways.
A4 with tune: averaged 3 runs
0-60: 6.26 seconds
0-100: 14.24 seconds
1/4mile:

Q7 with stage 2 no other mods. averaged 3 runs.
0-60: 6.03 seconds
0-100: 12.81 seconds
1/4mile: 13.93 @106.4mph
In short, my Q7 now drives and feels better than my tuned A4. It is noticeably quicker to the point my wife knew I "did something to the truck." Absolutely go for it, you will not be disappointed. There's nothing cooler than SMOKING teens in the Civic's, RSX's, Focus's, Sion's, etc.
Long winded, apologies. Popped my first post cherry though.
Thanks,
Jay
