    What are DAMOS files?

Please don't flame me, I did search on the forums (and google) but I couldn't find an exact answer.

Can anyone tell me what exactly DAMOS-A2L-OLS files are or what they do?

I grasp they have to do with tuning, just what exactly are they for?

They are map files showing the map locations of everything on the ecu. It's basically a legend for a map. This info is usually closely kept and traded for money since its valuable knowledge in tuning.

    Thanks DxC,

So these files tell you where the values are located with in the ECU programing. So in essence you can not tune an ecu with out them correct?

    How well kept are they??

maps, variables, scalars legend is a basic pre-requisite to start thinking of tuning a specific ECU. They could come in many different formats, DAMOS, OLS, Hex, TunerPro, etc.

What are you looking for? S4 maps? These are actually publicly posted on nefmoto

You don't need them (DAMOS) to tune your S4 ECU as the information for this ECU has been in the wild for quite sometime... most use other more freely available tools and map packs.

My S4 is in need of a total refresh (car is 100% but I feel it's time for an overhaul) so I have been doing research and weighing the pros vs. cons on what route I'm going to go in.
With that I was on ebay looking for small parts (ashtray cc holder) and there was a listing for B5 S4 AND RS4 2.7T ECU DAMOS TUNING FILES & I couldn't find a straight forward definition of DAMOS.

I'm confused because DxC said that the files are closely kept and traded for money. You say they are publicly posted nefmoto (I just googled it, cool site!).

Professional tuners guard these files, but hobbyists are pretty open. Nefmoto is a great site, and most people there give freely of whatever they have. Newer vehicles for which information hasn't yet disseminated are still difficult to tune, but the ME7 has been thoroughly mapped.

Okay so now I'm a little confused about all of this....

If I wanted to tune an ECU personally on my own I would or wouldn't I need DAMOS files?

Ahhh I gotcha now. So the stuff on ebay is for a Professional not a hobbyist or for a car that is still in it's infancy so to say.

So it would be worth purchasing the 2.0T Files or 997 Twin Turbo Files or even Taurus SHO Files.

I doubt the same seller sells maps for much newer cars... They sell for Me 7.1 (which is S4) only because they can openly gather them, post on ebay and hope for some idiot to pay money for something they can otherwise get for free. Such person would then have no clue what to do with them anyway as if they knew how to tune...they would know where to get this stuff for free... You see what I am getting at? Catch 22 in reverse.

I hear what you're saying, I need to do some more homework on my end and really evaluate if I personally want to dedicate time to it. At $100.00 it might be worth the shot for both s4 & rs4 files. Hell for $20 they have Mini Cooper files LMFAO!

The same guy has a ton of these things listed including the 2.0, 997 turbo & sho.

I have a pile of Damos files for many many cars which I downloaded for free. This is no doubt exactly what that dude is selling, just piece meal. Costs him nothing sans posting fee on ebay and that occasionally is free too...

I checked out Nefmoto & sure enough there were the S4 files but I didn't see anything like the other files offered on ebay. http://i.ebayimg.com/t/PORSCHE-CAYEN...3rQ~~60_57.JPG
