    Ticking / clicking noise from engine

    ok well since i lost my warranty due to a chip i had no clue was in the car, i guess its time for help from you guys and get the problem fixed my damn self. Car has a clicking / ticking noise that has gotten more aggressive in the last 2 days.. before i was refused warranty work i had asked them to check and see if it was the Cam follower.. in which case they said it wasn't. car has 45k , oil changed, and not consuming oil ... any ideas.. i can get a video if at all any help

    sorry the tick is at idle.... hot and cold.. seems to be not as loud when hot (engine )

    Could be the intake manifold flaps...that ticks and clicks a lot in our cars. Start there.

    Sounds to be the heaviest noise when cold, and coming from the turbo general area.. i have a video uploading as we speak, taking forever though... but .. im at work, by my 3:00PM break, it should be uploaded and ill post it up ~ thanks guys

    If its the timing chain going Id shut that mofo off and.replace it as fast as you can before some serious drama happens. Seriously,.get a $10 stethoscope and prod around in there.

    Remove the engine cover and look around....sounds like a loose belt ....is the serpentine belt operating smoothly? Not a ticking noise...more like a squeeking noise......does it go faster when u rev the engine or about the same?

    It definitely doesn't sound normal. It sounds like a bearing, pulley or belt squeak/squeal, but unless you find someone in the forum who has experienced the same noise, it's difficult to diagnose by video. It's layered over the normal ticking we hear on this engine. You may want to invest in an hour of shop time at the dealer or an indie shop to diagnose it and then do the fix yourself, if it's within your scope.

    After watching it again in HD, it sounds more like a squeak than a click to me. Friend of mine said it sounded like air movement.

    Not sure what area/part could be having air moving in that rythmic cycle. It'll have to be somewhere small, and the noise coming from a small leak, with pressure pushing through it. I'm not too mechanical...so I can't be more specific.

    Although my personal take is it can also be a pulley or belt. If there's a deformity/abnormality that's causing it to rub, it might make that noise. But it sounds very much like rubber on metal, or rubber on rubber.

    My car made the exact same noise a week ago while I was in gear stopped at the drive thru, but it stopped when I put it in neutral. I haven't heard it since but it sounds exactly the same.

    this seems to be my problem. in the FP just before the cam folower, this spring was super loose and rattling around

    the hphp is not very close to the turbo. were you able to hear that noise when listening at the back of the engine?

    I thought these cars did not have the cam follower issue because cam follower was roller type like a in a diesel motor.

    My 09 A4 P+ makes a clicking noise at idle as well. I took it to the dealer as I'm still under warranty and they told me that the clicking is "normal" even thought its random. I do notice however mine seems to click only at idle and mostly when its warm... I don't remember hearing the clicking when I bought it a couple years ago. How ever it hasn't gotten louder and I've noticed the noise a few months ago. Frustrating, as a year ago it was making a similar noise that required the head to be replaced (valve bearing) failed I think is what they said (if that makes sense). Im paranoid as the warranty expires in 2 months.

    It's 2019 now but mines doing the same thing. Ticking gets faster once I reveal it and idk what it could be.
