S5 Spoiler

Has anyone bought this spoiler and installed it? I have been looking for the caractere spoiler for some time, but cant bring myself to spend that much money on something so simple.....

I found this on ebay, looks pretty straightforward and the price is pretty damn good.

The only downside is, the spoiler does not come painted so that would have to be done. I would imagine that could be done for around $75 locally.

Thoughts, anyone? I like the look of this, anyone have other affordable options?

Not sure how I feel about this one, but it comes painted for $135.00. But it says it won't fit the S5. I thought the body was pretty much the same for the S5 and A5, pre-facelift.

I just ordered this from www.carid.com painted to quartz grey. Has not arrived yet but evidently easy to install. Held on by 3m.

Looking forward to seeing what it looks like. I like the trunk lip spoiler on the new RS5 cab but the one I ordered is smaller in height.

I had bought a lip spoiler from them for my old A5, paint match to Phantom Black was near perfect

I guess it's hit or miss with pre-painted stuff. Woo's Reiger front looks mismatched in the pics and he had his pre-painted. If you're not anal than you should be fine, but if you're anything like tommy it'll bother the hell outta you.

Agreed, just stating my experience. I saw an Acura NSX that had prepainted chin and rear spoilers that didn't match the rest of the yellow car. I know it's not an Audi but what a shame on an otherwise sleek looking car for the early 90's.

Completely agree. There's an S4 that I occasionally pass on my way to work that has a mismatched spoiler. Pisses me off every time I see it.

What is your experience using 3M tape for these sort of applications? You are against using the tape, therefore I imagine you can share some horror stories about it. I have used it in the past with great success.

So you recommend spending 3.5 times the cost on something that is virtually the same, just because you don't like ebay products? A bunch of us just bought RS5 grilles off an ebay seller for 1/3 the cost of OEM. There is a bunch of S4 guys that have installed the same grille and everyone of them only had great things to say about the product they received and installed.

I have had previous success purchasing pre-painted products, but I do understand your concerns. The first spoiler I listed and probably the one I will get, does NOT come painted, so I would have to get that done locally.

WOW, it's that obvious? You can clearly see the mismatched colors when you pass him? I imagine, light colors such as yellow are much easier to mess up and notice if the colors are mismatched.

On another note, the seller has good feedback and seems to sell a bunch of the pre-painted spoilers. If people were being sent a product that was subpar, logic says, they would complain.

The moulded spoiler on the S is more pronounced or something. I think someone bought a lip spoiler for the A5 to test and it wouldn't sit flush on the S.

I would make sure it fits before ordering. Also Pre-and Post Facelift trunks are the same correct?

After looking at the auction more closely, it looks like it's for the A5 and it's called the "S5 CARACTERE Style". Its very confusing when you first look at it cuz it can be mistaken to fit both models if the "2D" wasn't between there.

Thanks for the information. This is half the reason why I posted. You probably saved me a decent size headache. So based on the listing, neither will fit a S5. Ooo, I'll keep an eye out for this. I think the rear could use a more pronounced lip spoiler, like the CSL style for the BMWs.

Any update on the CF spoiler? How far away are you from having this done? We talking 1 month or 6 months? Just curious.

Does anyone know where we can buy a Japanese version of the Caractere spoiler for the S5? It must exist. I'm all set on spending $600 on their spoiler and another $200 to have it painted. The first link I posted, the "caractere style" spoiler will only fit the A5.

Purchased from carid.com painted to match. $300 delivered. The 1st one they delivered was pitted and looked like garbage. The 2nd one was tight. Was going to go with the new RS5 cab lip spoiler but didn't want to spend a fortune nor wanted a inch or bigger sticking up off my ride. This spoiler is almost 1" in height.

I thought the placement for this type of spoiler was suppose to be on the extreme rear edge of the trunk???? No?

Not on the cab. The rear edge is on a downward slope so it just wouldn't look right. The coupes trunk line may be different..?

Why? U been watching too much fast n furious. Just get u some 6" mounting brackets so it can sit way up n u can get some good downforce and how bout some chrome fender flares while ur at it. Dont do that to ur car PLEASE!!! Sorry i'm just not a fan of that. It takes away from the sexy back end curve the car already has IMO
