    Honest Opinion.....Audi Q5 or BMW X5?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi, im from the B6 forum, and my best friend is wanted either a Range Rover (NO), X5, or Q5....now i know bmw has its share of problems but what would you guys think? He just wants an SUV, so I would honestly buy a Q5, but i dont know how maintenance is on these.... Could really use some personal insight...and he is a very well off 20 year old....lol But i dont want him paying out the ass for nonsense.... thanks again!

Q5 is smaller than an X5.

    Q5 vs X3.

    Q7 vs X5.

I have a couple of friends with Q7 3.0TDI and they love them. Fairly new cars so I haven't heard of any issues with them.

Haven't heard anything go bad with the Q5 either. With a reflash on the 2.0t and you have yourself a peppy yet economical mini suv.

Yeah, unfortunately it would. Still drives good with stock specs though. The X5 is actually a better car than the Q5. At 20 years old and being able to afford those cars, if I were him I would get a Range Rover Sport or X5m.

Depends on what he's looking for the car to do... For a more car-like drive and feel, I'd go for the Q5. And to keep the pricing on par, he'd be looking at the Q5 3.0T which should be plenty of power as well. The 2.0T since 2011 has been quite reliable and the only concern would be oil consumption (which I haven't experienced on my 2012). The Q5 just had a facelift for 2013 so there were many improvements made on the performance, exterior and interior. The X5 has its appeal too in some markets, but I believe there will be a facelift coming soon in a year or two.

Touareg hybrid= 328 hp and 426 lb/ft. I picked up a 2011 for 39k with Audi supercharged v6. We wanted something a little bigger than q5 (plus our second car is B8 a4 prestige) but couldn't justify q7 TDI. Audi service and general dealership experience and general warranty is a plus, but Treg is CPO and comes with 10yr/100k power train and is made in Bratslavia. The quality is as good as (if not a touch better ) than what's in the A4/q5 (it shares the gauge platform with a8 and same powerplant as Cayenne/Panamara). I can't really comment on X5 other than agree with others on its comparisson with q7.

I was going to suggest Touareg as well, although I think I'd opt for the diesel.

All of the luxurious appointments without the luxury brand image... something that may be important for a 20 year old if he's trying to fly under the radar a bit.

Yea he said he wants a diesel, something good in the snow (but we live in dallas tx.....we barely get snow IF any....lol) and i diesel, which i asked why and he said theyre more powerful and he loves the sound (i hate the sound lol) But he has a 2006 BMW 530i right now, my fault since in HS i was a complete BMW fanatic and kinda talked him into it but now im slowly but sure switching to audi lol But he just wants something loaded and that has good handling.

If he wants a diesel, then the Q5 probably isn't the right car for him.

Yea i just told him that. lol i did tell him about the touareg tho. But he said hes looking into the future and hoprfully marry in the next 3-4 years.....(me....naahhhh I'm gonna still be partyin my ass off...) lol but i dont think he needs a big SUV....i mean...(i hope) hes not gonna have 2-3 kids in the time frame.....so why go bigger when you save money and go a bit smaller with all the same tech toys and stuff?

LOLOLOLOLOL i would....but i honestly think MB's are somewhat shitty.... i never liked them meaning they're never WOW'ed me too much (i applied at lexus originally but theyre werent hiring....haha)....and plus theyre options suck and id only get $100 for a referral. (id get that on any sale that i referred) only ones i like are the C63 and the CLS's/GL's. I would prefer to work at Audi but my company is #4 in the nation for the best company to work for.. so ill stay lol But i see the bills come in here... and im not sure about selling him a benz

No love for the 3.0 TDI? Granted it's not here quite yet, but depending on the timeframe he's looking at, it may be available by then.

Threads like this are always entertaining. I wouldn't say your friend is comparing an apple to an orange, but...it is like an apple to a pear. Perhaps in some of his well-off-20-year-old spare time, he can visit a BMW store and an Audi store, drive both, and then further refine what works for him?

No offense, but being indecisive and fickle is pretty common...I think we all suffer through it. You cure it by working through it...he needs to spend time with each vehicle, fine-tuning what's important and rating each vehicle accordingly. I'm having a hard time with the maintenance thing...he's considering an investment into a Range Rover, and Audi, and a BMW. If he's having issues managing the concept of maintenance bills on a premium-branded vehicle, perhaps he should go with the CR-V?

If you think of maintenance then think about Toyota, Mazda, KIA, Hyundai - much cheaper to maintenance

Yea but i wont let him get a Land Rover, those are horrible. My A4 been pretty reliable so i would recommend Audi, but i dont have a Q5 and its a lot newer than mine so it wouldnt be an accurate decision

how about sq5 x6 or infiniti fx50/37 sporty looking suvs!

i had the fx45 very good car unless all he wants is a german car~

i love my q5 but maintenace was easier/cheaper DIYable in the infiniti.

x6 is also a very aggressive looking suv~

I went through the same thing. Was considering forced induction engines only which meant x5, q5 3.0t or x3. Drove all three. Liked all three. Learned of the SQ5 in Jan 2013. Made a deposit on a x5 m-sport 50i in March. Backed out a week later and put the deposit on the SQ5 in May.

The new x5 looks like a van if you don't get the m sport. And it kinda looks like a van if you do get the m sport.

The X3 is getting a facelift this year and looks really bad ass. I would strongly consider it if I was in the market right now. Plus I like BMW for its selection of performance parts and upgrades. And I think turbo is better than supercharger but it depends on what you like. Negatives to the brand will be poor resale and steeper depreciation. Plus it seems like everyone and their mother drives one.

I wouldn't buy the q5 2.0t or 3.0t. For me, the SQ5 was worth the extra money. It will help in resale and I really like to accelerate. When people ask me about the car, I tell them what a horrible company audi is to deal with and that I wish someone else sold the SQ5...... And then I tell them what a blast it is to drive.

    My advice:
    Don't buy an x5.
Look at the Porsche Macan. I've never driven it but man do I ever want to.
    Look hard at a new x3 M-Sport.
If you don't like that, look at the Q53.0T or Q5TDI and decide if the SQ5 is worth it.
