    Heat resistant split wire loom?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I found out that a couple of my coil pack harnesses had frayed wires this weekend. I repaired the connections but the original insulation had to be cut off. Does anyone know of a split wire loom that is heat resistant? I've used the corrugated stuff Autozone sells but it does not hold up to heat well at all. I've also used the DEI wire sleeves but they are not split so I'm not sure how I could get them on the wiring without cutting off the plug.

I've seen little wraps that look like tinfoil. Not sure what they at or where you get them.

When you say wrap do you mean like you would electrical tape? That sounds like it would work.

No I wouldn't use electrical tape, I'm asking if the foil Rocky mentioned is applied like electrical tape. Wrapping it around the wires as opposed to sliding it over.

You probably want something like this.... Clicky Click

Lots of other choices there when you search for "heat shield".

don't know how well it holds up to heat, but they make a weird brush on electrical tape now. (semi-convinced its just plasti-dip)
but maybe they make a hi-temp brush on tape, not sure, but that would prob be the most convenient

Cyber, that looks exactly like what I need, hopefully I can find something a little smaller in width. Hadn't thought about using heat shield, I figured the results would be just rigid pieces.

I didn't realize plasti-dip was even heat resistant but I'm going to look around for that too. Would make the job real easy.

    Thanks guys.

This is what you are looking for. This is an OEM heat shield. Same part from different vendors with current price.
Ignition Coil Pack Heat Shield $74.95 at Europaparts
Coil Pack Heat Shield $90.48 at ECS
Coil Pack Heat Shield $52.15 at ECS
    Deflector $69.23 at GAP

ECS is listed twice because if you search for the part number, you get 2 results with 2 very different prices for the same item.

And if you want overkill, you could also replace your wiring harness with 034's Harness Repair Kit and use the heat shield together for a very heat resistant setup.

Damn, any of those seems like a better solution but I can't swallow that price. If I ever have to do any extensive repair I'll get 034's setup.

    McMaster-Carr ftw.

OP, I think I know exactly what you want. I'm pretty sure I've seen it on GM vehicles, it's a split, corrugated aluminum conduit.
