    A4 track car build

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey everyone I am building a b5 1.8 turbo for a track car.
I already stripped the interior, suspension done, garret turbo, bigger injectors, cold air intake, fmic, race seat, 5 point harness which is a big help to keep me place.
My next step is to drop the motor and make it stronger.
I have done a couple track days with the car and it's amazing good alignment and adjustable upper arms were great for proper setup.

Ran it with Goodrich r1 and the car was stuck to the ground. My next step is also to work on brakes stock ones hold but not good enough. I ran it with motul 600 rbf and of course braided brake lines.

I installed a oil cooler which helped big time my temp was always low the oil temp was perfect.

I have pics trying to up load them but having a hard time from the iPad.

I have a Aeb motor was looking to change the block to a newer block any suggestions.

    Thank you

For breaks depending on how big you want to go, I would suggest perhaps the A8 brake upgrade. If you want more you might go through with upgrading to S4 uprights and brakes.

As for the block, the AEB is pretty strong, drop in rods will hold up nicely to larger turbos, there is a thread in the DIY and FAQ section that goes over increasing displacement if you decide you want to get into that.

For an AEB I would suggest just dropping in a set of Scat H beams or since it is a track car maybe the IE Tuscan I beams or a set of Pauter rods. Any of these will drop right into the 058 block without having to modify the IM oil shaft like you would if you were to go with the IE H beam rods.

Look into brake ducting. After that, there are a lot of brake options. Just stick with the 058 block unless you want to convert your engine, ECU, cluster, DBW (pedal and TB) etc for a wideband. That block has made a lot of power. Person who posted above me has that same block I believe, bored to 2L. Over 600whp.

    Wow 600 hp that's awesome I wanted around 400hp.
I was looking to see how to install the brake ducts. I really don't wanna go through that conversion I will keep the 058 block

Brake ducting has to do with your ingenuity. You basically make a back plate with an inlet (you want this to be near the hub section of the rotor, so the air can travel through the center veins of the rotor and basically shoot outwards on the edges of them), route brake ducting (can be picked up at Jegs, Summit Racing, and the likes), and mock up something for the front. You don't need a really big brake setup (bigger is better, though) as long as you can keep the rotor cool.

I had back plates made by a company called PureMS, but sold them a couple months back. Here are the ones I used to have, to give you an idea. I never installed them and was holding onto them for when my car was track ready. But was holding onto them for over 3 years and figured someone else could actually make use of them. So, I sold them brand new. The company no longer makes them, and not sure if they ever plan on doing another production run. But all it is is sheet metal cut properly, holes for the mounting points placed in the right spots, and an inlet directed to the right part of the rotor.

Here is a thread where someone made his own system.

And another thread from the B5 S4 section.

I eventually want to track my car, but will also be a reliable street daily driver. Taking baby steps, but getting there slowly. Have a fair amount of mods, but the car is not where I want it to be currently. Looking at a minimum of 350whp.

It was my dd until one day I went crazy and took off the interior and a/c there's nothing left lol. My goal is to build a cage. I had a custom harness bar made for it . It's a work in progress but it takes plenty of time. The hp is my problem too that's why I wanna build a soild build for the track.

There is a guy in the B6 section with a really intense track car. I'll try and see if I can dig up his videos. His car is a dedicated track car like yours, and is actually a driving instructor too.

Found it: Here is a list of his threads. Send him a PM if you want some advice on how to go about building your track car. As you can see in his videos, his is done properly.

What oil cooler and suspension are you running?

I would recommend A8 front and S4 rear brakes, 034 motorsport rear sway bar with brackets, and maybe relocate or get a lighter battery. Our car is too nose heavy.

Looks pretty nice so far. What are your plans for tuning? Stand-alone?
Also, any specific classes that you race in? Where are the tracks in Miami?

I am running the motol oil cooler that connects to the oil filter as far as suspension pss10 which are great.
I think I am going to try the a8 setup and move the battery to the rear.
Tunning maybe standalone looking into that. I run at homestead speedway hpde.
I will put my alignment print out in a ill

+1 for the alignment specs. Im progressing towards my track setup, but need an alignment and pads. What pads are you currently running? i was going to run hawk HT14 fronts and hp plus for the rear all on autozone blank rotors.

Awesome my alignment specs are at the shop that will have to wait till Tonmorrow. As far as brake pads I ran the 9012 hawk blues and Hp plus in the rear not a big fan trying something else next time. I think with proper vented brakes you should be fine. My last session was a hour and ran the whole hour but my brakes were not holding up I think it was the brake pads and i also ran with stock rotors. Going to work on some kind of vents for the brakes. I was wondering what kind of motor oil were you thinking of using I ran the motul 300v

first off, you might as well delete this thread unless you get some heavy pics up of the progress.

second, why not check out s4 hp2 calipers for the brake upgrade? I know a lot of guys think they arent much better, but once you go s4 uprights you have plenty of big brake upgrades available to you, like pretty much all newer S and RS oem calipers and of course aftermarket

Sounds like an interesting build man. Car looks great too. Looking forward to seeing some progress!

You have those huge vents up in the front bumper that you can use for brake ducting. Good call with the stroker too.

Ninja Edit: I have the ECS stage 2 Porsche brakes (Boxster) with A8 rotors and absolutely love them.. Relatively inexpensive for what you get, and maintenance parts (rotors, pads... etc) are easy to find and inexpensive.

Great to hear you're going to be running a Stage IIc. I'm "nearing completion" (as in its still months away lol) of my B5 A4 2.0L track car as well, running a full Stage IIc, etc. The flexibility of the standalone and all the extra options can really help, especially things like the "Push to Pass" boost control. This can really help cut down on understeer out of corners and allow you to put power down much sooner while exiting; soon as you hit a straight, just hit a steering wheel mounted button and boom, 10 more PSI. On our A4 Time Attack car, this helped lap times considerably as you will always be fighting the less-than-ideal weight distribution.

Did you already get the IIc?

Let me know if I can help with anything.

I personally would not recommend "upgrading" to HP2 calipers. They are still a single sided large iron caliper and while they can stop pretty well during a single braking session, on the track they are pretty easy to overpower and overheat, losing modulation. Just a basic Porsche Boxster caliper with an A8 rotor will be far superior, especially as things get hotter. Modulation is often more important. If HP2's are sufficient for you (even with track pads, proper fluid, good lines, and 2 piece rotors), than you're not pushing the car hard enough.

Just to clarify, He said 600WHP, I think around 620-630whp?

    Thats like 800crank hp..

Last time I was on the track I cooked by brakes. I think the right pads are the important choice here. However if you have the coin then definitely go for some bigger calipers and rotors. Maybe look at some Porsche Cayenne calipers? They are a popular upgrade.

Dont forget to do some sort of power steering cooler as well as an external oil cooler. 20 minute time trials are one thing, but back to back or hour long enduro's and your really cooking some fluid. Change your trani and diff fluid as well, Throw in some "Shock Proof" in the trani.

When you upgrade your rear sway bar, buy metal end links as the plastics have a lot of flex, then also forget about whatever sway bar bracket it comes with (Or buy a bar without one, my H+R bar didnt have one) and weld up your own bracket.. I made my for 1/8" flatstock bent to shape. Really simple and way better than anything else on the market.

My next buy was going to be sway bars and solid mounts on motor and tranny . That's a pretty good idea on the sway bar.

I don't mean to keep trying to sell you stuff , but our 25mm rear swaybar is the largest and stiffest bar out there and is available with billet subframe reinforcements.

Our Motorsport Motor Mounts actually drive quite well, have very very little movement/deflection, and have a lifetime warranty to boot. We have Motorsport transmission mounts also, which use Delrin and are very very stiff. Combined with an Apikol red rear diff mount, some diff carrier bushings, and a snub mount/bracket combo...you'll be quite locked down.
