Z18/Z17 brake pads - anything like akebono out there?

I've been using akebono brake pads on my HP2 until I made upgrade to 18Z and absolutely loved them for their dust-free nature, unlike any other pad I ever tried. I could literally not wash the wheels for three months and you could never tell there is any brake dust on them and they are silver.

Now that I have 18Z, I went with Hawk ceramic pads and the wheels are a complete disgrace, dirty in mere few days.

Unfortunately, for unknown reasons, akebono is not making this specific pad. Are there any other confirmed dust free pads out there, and I mean it, completely durst free like akebonos?

I don't really think pads are actually dust free. It is just the color of the dust...so try and find pads close to color of the wheels. Probably something with a higher ceramic content.

You might get a lot of dust initially too...see after the bed-in.

Haha, not quite. Usually more aggressive pads wear out faster, much faster, but they also stop a lot better because of the different compound. They wear faster, they make more dust. Akebono pads are cleaner in most cases but they also don't stop too well. They are nice overall option if you don't care about getting the best out of your brakes.

If you want a relatively dust free pad and cheap too... The Powerstop Ceramic pads, found on ebay/brakemotive packages are pretty dust free, quiet, and stop well.
Not something I'd really recommend for the track but the price is great.

Centric posi-quiet is also a great choice

I get all that. Anyway, see after you do a bed-in how much dust you get.

I really wish they would make pads for the 17z/18z. :( I am currently running my HP2s on my B6 with the akebono pads I put on my S4 2 years ago, they will never wear down, and no dust!!

They also don't stop for shit. I don't understand how you guys can drive around on some of these pads do any of you actually use your cars? Ceramic pads are a joke, it feels like your stepping on a sponge every time you touch the brakes and one stop from 100 and they'll fade.

I beg to differ, pads work great on the B6, almost too good. They did not work as well on the B5, but I think it's related to the master cylinder difference between the B6 and B5.

Akebonos work fine. They don't stop very well on cold rotor but once heated up they stop like any other pad but are completely dust free.

That's funny, I have a different experience with organic pads doing exactly that and ceramic either holding or improving grab as they heat up. But, there is always a threshold above which no pad works anymore, but it is much higher for ceramic than organic.... that's the whole point of ceramic pad after all.
