    B7 RS4 wheels on a B7 S4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I searched around a bit and couldn't find an answer so apologies if this has been answered elsewhere.

I am curious about the OEM B7 RS4 wheels being compatible with the B7 S4. I realize they are 19 inch instead of the standard 18 but, was curious if it is a direct bolt up or if the offsets are problematic causing any issues with rubbing etc. I have noticed that many folks have gone this route, I'm just not clear on any issues.

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers.

Seems like they tend to look OK in the back but kind of fat like a hot rod in the front, but I don't think rubbing is an issue.

rubbing becomes an issues if you lower your car and also depends on how wide your tires are. i am currently running 255/35/19 on OEM RS4 wheels and i am lowered on koni yellows with H&R sport springs. i had to put about -1.5 to -2 degrees of camber all around and it only rubs every once in awhile if i hit a big pot hole or something but very rarely. you can make this fit and i low how it "pokes" just a bit. my friend said it look like a "bulldog" with my wheels poking out a bit. personally i think these look freaking awesome.

Right, when you are putting them on an RS4.

i am not a fan of stretching tires. yea 235 on 9" wheel isn't even a stretch but i rather have wider tires if i can fit em.

my last set was 245 and now have 255 may be 265 next set. yea right 255 is probably the largest tires i will ever use on my s4.

Wow, thanks so much for the replies and pictures. So a 235 or 245 should fit ok then? I think they look tremendous, I will go ahead and begin my search.

Thanks again everyone. I will let you know how this works out.

depends on height of your car. if you are lowered at all you will need to roll front fenders and probably have to get a new set of front upper control arms and put some negative camber all around.

I am not lowered at all, stock height all around. I just prefer the look of the RS4 wheels.

I almost went this route, but I went for 18" reps and H&R Coilovers and I know I definitely made the right choice. I couldn't be happier with it. If you want to drop it in the future you'll be saving yourself some trouble if you go 18" I think...

VMR wheel quality is actually pretty good specially with newer ones. i had older one and one of em cracked on me. luckily i had a spare so i used that and got rid of the cracked wheel. however you really can't beat the quality and look of the OEM wheels. well i guess i shouldn't say you can't beat oem quality and the look. but oem is better than vmr in my opinion and i prefer oem over vmr.

Do not run 235. My DTM I picked up last fall had OEM RS4 wheels with stretched 235 on it. I had issues with tires losing air, very rough ride, you have limited lip protection and when I put my stocks on for winter one tire has three golf balls on the inside wall.

Going at least 245 in the spring.

Also note the rims were just refinished and professional straitened by wheels of America.

    B7 RS4 wheels on a B7 S4

All 235s are rated by the manufacturer for wheels 8-9.5 inches wide. Should be fine. If your wheels were refinished by wheels of America they certainly had previous damage that may have caused some of your trouble. They do a good job repairing, but they are never perfect after damage.

That being said, 245/35 would be ideal for protection and ride.

Yes you can 235 on a wheel up to 9.5 if you want stretch. Also something to consider is the load rating which most of the 235 are on the lower limits of what should be used.

Also something to consider is the road conditions here are not great due I our seasonal changes and there are potholes even on the best roads. It feels like driving through a mind field.

As for the wheels being repaired I could agree with you if it was only happening on one wheel, but all four whenever the temp outside dropped I'd start loosing air, in addition I've had the wheels inspected by my tech to make sure there were no bends and they are strait.

So depending where you live, although I still feel 245 min on OEM RS4 wheels.

I wouldn't really consider putting a tire on a wheel that's within the mfg's suggested range "stretch". But I understand stretch is a relative word and it won't necessarily look OEM.

235s on a straight 9 inch rim is not going to cause air loss at low temps, or any temp at that matter. I have to disagree that the tire size is the root cause of the problem. I would say that's more likely valve stems or other tire damage. I have taken dozens of wheels to my experts that they have certified as "straight". "Straight" is according to a threshold (typically 60 thousandths). A bent wheel will never be 100% straight again; that is a fact.

There are thousands and thousands of B6/B7 owners running 235/35 on 8.5 inch reps. That's been the standard for years and years. An extra .5 inches of width on the rim isn't going to be night and day. I think people over-dramatize the affects of a 235 on a 9 inch rim.

I think people over-dramatize the affects of a 235 on a 9 inch rim.
i agree with you 100%. you can run 235 tires on 9" wheels. go check tire specs on tire manufacturers website. 235 can be mounted on 9.5" wheel if you want. losing air got nothing to do with 235 tire on 9" wheel. there was another member on this board running 225 without a problem. if you are losing air it sounds like your wheel is having an issue. 235/35 tire will be crappier ride quality than 245/35 tire. also 235 tire probably has 91XL load rating and our s4 needs at least 93XL or 95XL is suggested. 91XL will be ok also but you are pushing the limit of your tire.

Just to clarify I never said its outside of the manufactures specs. It's my experience.

As for it being something other than tire size well, the main tire that was being the most trouble was brand new, I had it moved to all 4 wheels, had the wheels checked 5 times for bends/imperfections, new valve stems etc and etc and had the same issue over and over. I drove my tech nuts with this issue.

It's not outside the specs but I don't recommend it and if you've read main thread that I did here on AZ the op clearly states the same opinion.

It's your car, your wheels and your money do as you please. Just sharing my experience with this setup.
