As for the wheels being repaired I could agree with you if it was only happening on one wheel, but all four whenever the temp outside dropped I'd start loosing air, in addition I've had the wheels inspected by my tech to make sure there were no bends and they are strait.
I wouldn't really consider putting a tire on a wheel that's within the mfg's suggested range "stretch". But I understand stretch is a relative word and it won't necessarily look OEM.
235s on a straight 9 inch rim is not going to cause air loss at low temps, or any temp at that matter. I have to disagree that the tire size is the root cause of the problem. I would say that's more likely valve stems or other tire damage. I have taken dozens of wheels to my experts that they have certified as "straight". "Straight" is according to a threshold (typically 60 thousandths). A bent wheel will never be 100% straight again; that is a fact.
There are thousands and thousands of B6/B7 owners running 235/35 on 8.5 inch reps. That's been the standard for years and years. An extra .5 inches of width on the rim isn't going to be night and day. I think people over-dramatize the affects of a 235 on a 9 inch rim.
